Brief Encounter is on ABC at 4.30am tomorrow (Tue 11/11). It's based on a Noel Coward play and set in a railway refreshment room. It was filmed on location at Carnforth and has trains passing every few minutes. Set your VCR tonight.

Cheers
David

Is that the one based on a group of people that miss their train due to one of them stopping the first train, and during the night the ghost of the branch line train comes through on that night?

That's The Ghost Train, based on the play by Arnold Ridley.

For fans of Budd RDCs

Everyone's favorite detective, Billy Rosewood trying to save the world again Very Happy (Excuse the Beverly Hills Cop Joke)

http://tvguide.ninemsn.com.au/closeup/default.asp?pid=8439404

Its a rather lame movie by the IMDB description, but it does feature BC Rail Budd RDCs as 'the train'

OK gunzels we have an action packed weekend of train films coming up !

All times are Sydney, as always check your local guide.

Saturday, CH9

The Peacemaker

http://tvguide.ninemsn.com.au/closeup/default.asp?pid=8716659

Watch the intro to the movie and dont bother with the rest. It is a interesting steam versus diesel chase and hikjack sequence. I have mentioned this scene previously.

Saturday, CH10

Money Train

http://tvguide.ninemsn.com.au/closeup/default.asp?pid=8698156

Useless, the train shots were shot in a makeshift subway built in a carpark in L.A as it was one of the whole places big enough.

Skip it unless your an action film or subway addict.

Monday, CH7

Runaway Train

http://tvguide.ninemsn.com.au/closeup/default.asp?pid=8753980

This is an 80s classic, and a must see for the railfan. It is set in snowbound Alaska.

The remaster which will be shown (was shown last year or before) is much, much better in quality.

Keep an eye out for the ALCo MRS-1 road switcher in the siding before the accident. These locomotives were built by EMD/ALCo/GE as a common design for During and Post WW2 use in Europe, and as such are the odditiy on North American rails due to their small size. It is very similar in looks to the DL531/535 export model.

The locomotives featured in the film are a GP40, F7 and a GP9, there is some information about the consist on the web.

Now if only 7 would show Emperor of the North.

Cheers.

This is an excellent movie and well worth taping. The train scenes are limited to the start and end. Personally I wouldn't call it a horror film.
