And this

http://www.raildriver.com/rdfree/msts2.php?

Quote:
Microsoft Announces New Train Simulator

Redmond, WA, January 19, 2007 – Following the successful release of Microsoft Flight Simulator X, the Aces Studio is using the same technology to develop a new version of Microsoft Train Simulator. Unrelated to our previous Train Simulator development efforts, this version will be an all-new product built on the Flight Simulator X platform, the culmination of 25 years of product development and technology.

"We are excited this announcement has finally occurred, and we are fully prepared to support Microsoft with complete RailDriver compatibility. Microsoft's choice of the Flight Sim X technology will allow us extensive access to control the simulation and provide the most immersive experience for the user."

Wow, let's hope it doesn't fall by the wayside...again.

Thanks for the heads up!

The graphics on this new work look inspiring. I cannot wait to see what they have planned. Hopeful they will send more details from the development team shortly.

signal_pic (Railpage Image Gallery)

If could of course just be a test to solicit responses as input to a build/no build decision.

Regards,
Brian

My feeling is that it's just a render. If it was an in-game screenshot, it'd have something a bit more substantial than some signals in it Smile

Wow it looks quite impressive to the old one that signal shot looks close to the real life thing i'm shocked and amazed this could blow the lid off TRS2006 that's proberly what Microsoft want after all.

Cheers

I think Michael is right, and I think Bevans is right, also.

I think you are very perceptive there, Michael. Spot on.

And Bevans, I think you are right, too: it could well be just a toe in the pool to see what kind of market exists out there. They went this route a bit before with MSTS I, didn't they?

Squeekazoid, be decent to the rest of us - use some grammar and use the spell checker, puh-leeese.

After a discussion about TRS being rather impressive in the Railpage Australia™ chat last night, I was left wondering what the future for MSTS helded (and train-simulation in general).

Lets hope it all works out. Very Happy

Will the new simulator still be compatible with the old MSTS models and routes? I thought that Microsoft ended its relationship with Kuju.

Thanks
Geoffrey

Probably not, and there's been no indication of any continued co-operation between MS and Kuju.

Well I believe this has put the pressure on Kuju to hurry the f*ck up and release Rail Sim and stop putting the original release date back further and further.

Hopefully the developers listen to what the public want and don't want (and actually do listen, Kuju!)

If pushing back the release date means we get a fully-finished piece of software, I have no problem with waiting.

They actually do listen to the community - read the threads in the KRS forum on UKTrainSim

Oh no! Not all this again. Smile

What is it going to be called? Can MSTS2 be reused?

Have you all submitted your wish list? There is a link to a feedback form at the Microsoft site.

I agree with that as well, but the release date has already been pushed back a quarter of a year and there doesn't seem to be much hype over a release any time soon.

I visit daily the UKTrainSim forums and am yet to see any real evidence that the simulation has changed because of public views (besides which routes to be made with the initial release) Unless of course something has slipped my mind over the past year and a half...
