Fantastic! Good to see some SAR steam - the more broad gauge steam the better!

Cheers,
Matt

Yes I got it download sometime back, but I will have to get DirectX 9 as the readme says it needs it. I'm still running with 8.1.

No one needs any permission to use my photos, they are there for all to see, and if find useful, use them, no credit needed. (they are priceless) Wink

No that was all I got, was big crowd that day.

Well you got me on that one. From what I remember, "no not like the Garratt". My only rail experience with 520 was the day I took those shots of 520 in the Mount Gambier yard. I was purposely booked off that day so I could video tape the 520 out to Cellulose and return, as a couple of years earlier I did take some earlier footage on her way to Wandillo from our car before on 8mm movie but some stinker in Kodak nicked it. They (Kodak) never found it either. Mad Just reminded me I'll have to find that video, as the 520 whistle sound would be on it coming out of Tantanoola. Now where to look for it is the big question.

Yes I do not mind beta testing her, I've done some beta testing for others.

Opps did not scoll down far enough to see your last post.

Is coming along nicely, take it easy as is an engine that is worth doing well.

ol 274 Question Do you mean Garratt 409 that is in Adelaide, or 402 is at Zig Zag. In my story it was Garratt 401 with 402 leading.

Well I savaged around and found that Video I did of the 520 on 20th May 1983 out to Cellulose and return, plenty of whistling in it to choose from. The video was done with one of the first of 2 National VHS video cameras used in South Australia. These Vid cameras were made well before beta and VHS VCR's got going, so the film though not bad still, but compared to today's video camera's not as good of course.

BTW the cost of that video camera was $3,200 in 1980 and weighed in around 30kg, today you put the video camera in your pocket. To get an idea of real cost we bought a new commodore VH sedan for $10,300, so Video camera prices have certainly come down and tiny.

If you would like to PM me your home address, I will copy the tape and post it to you seeing your doing the 520. (copied tapes are not as good as original) It has some smeggy bits as my wife was driving the car and I was filming as the camera was rather big as we were chasing the 520 with all the other cars following and it was nothing short of utter madness.., but missus did well as there is some really good stuff in it as well. So up to you. May more than inspire you. Wink

I had not played this tape since late 80's till today and it did bring a tear to the eye, seeing her alive like that, especially the ending as I did some editing to last bit.

Well to what happened, your guess is good as mine. No idea.
Most engines had dents and scratches after years of service. When engines are refurbished for historical reasons they are like new, for want of a better word. But I would say maybe a close call on a crossing, or maybe someone who dearly loves 3801, got jealous and kicked it. Wink only joking.

Old engines from a distance look nice, like an old lady, up close the dents of time etc show up. My picture was close up of the ol lady in May 1983, she did not have her make-up on, but hey, this old girl she still looks beautiful though doesn't she, dents and all. Looks like a working engine of my day and she's (1943) 2 years younger than me.
