Hey guys,

Just a quick question, think this has been covered before, but now that the whole MSTS/ Trainz scene has died down from what it was a few years ago, is there a way to convert MSTS models (the comengs Wink ) from MSTS format into Trainz2006??

This isnt a MSTS vs TRAINZ question.... I only ask as i have both programs, but prefer building routes etc in trainz's surveyor.......

any POSITIVE feedback would be appreciated, either here or in a PM... Laughing

Thanks guys!! Wink

The short answer is No. You can’t convert MSTS shape files into Trainz files via any sort of publicly available conversion program.

Do you know if any other 3D modelling programs, apart from gmax, can be used to create Trainz content?

GMax, 3D canvas pro, milkshape (Exported via GMax).

And yes, it is possible (It has been done), and it is done via the original TSM files I believe (I haven't done a conversion, but know someone who has). The main problem is the difference between the way the game engines render the objects (What MSTS shows as fairly smooth looks fairly poor in TRS). This can be fixed by re-smoothing the objects in 3D program. However, then you have alpha sorting to get around. Any way, the comeng fronts in MSTS (Great for MSTS) aren't the best when viewed up close, like you can in TRS.

Although a fair way off, this is one I'm slowly working on (Haven't touched it in nearly 3-6 months...).
