Well good-by ARHS and minature railway!

The study proposes two consolidated railway/historical sites:

a) At the present station on the existing main lines with no sidings. the land where the tennis courts, the minature railway, ARHS would all be housing. ie:

"East Lake
A rail precinct located generally in the location of the existing Canberra Station retaining the existing main line within a narrower rail corridor as shown at Attachment A (Fig 2.2). Freight services are relocated to the rail corridor east of the Monaro Highway. A new station would potentially be incorporated within a larger mixed-use building and integrated into the surrounding urban development."

No room for ARHS for in this option.

b) Epicentre

"Newcastle Street
A widened section of the existing rail corridor adjacent to the east of the Newcastle Street rail crossing and the EpiCentre commercial estate, as shown at Attachment A (Fig 2.1). The site can provide for relocated passenger and historic rail operations, potentially on opposite sides of the main line. It is envisaged that the existing rail corridor would be retained from Newcastle Street west to the Monaro Highway for freight services and possible future transit options connecting into East Lake and the central area of Canberra utilising the existing railway corridor and adjacent undeveloped land."

Future transit options? Real light rail from Jerrbomberra and Googong.

Hope this helps.

TO7145 is the name of the Tender and its a bit painful getting to on the Website. You need to provide your "company" details to view the documents. Looks like the Status quo is not an option. The objective of the tender "is to make recommendations to Government on the delivery of rail services to best serve the current and future needs of the ACT community and reflect broader transport and regional objectives." No mention of flogging the present railway land off to the highest bidder althought I'm sure this is the real objective.

My gawd man. fig 2.2 in the appendix shows lots of red and purple building blocks and roads all over the present hysterical museum and railway corridor. If that ain't making it clear that it is the intention to sell off the land to extend the Kingston foreshore legoland apartment complexes, then I don't know what is.

Absolutely right! I should learn to read between the lines more.

Who owns the Railway line from the points past Joppa Junction (including the line that runs through the ACT) to Cooma & Bombala?

ARTC, RailCorp, ARHS(ACT), CMR Do all of these parties own the line?.
