If you're a genuine train lover yourself, why haven't you made any other postings on a Rail Enthusiast Forum?  Why have you made a similar 'For Sale' Thread in Locomotives and Rollingstock as well?  There is no need for multiple Threads.

Aren't we being a bit tough? They want to sell a property with ex QR rail wagons on it, why not list it here and in multiple locations, I would? I don't read all the sections, I'm sure others are the same.

I'm just confused as to why a person with Rail Carriages on their Property has not made any other rail related replies.

I am not meaning to offend anyone. I have posted threads on this site before. I have been trying to trace history of these carriages for 2 years and have posted that here before.

Reason for posting here: this is where i would find someone to care for these carriages. Plain and simple.

What does it really matter, with some of the other dribble that goes on in these forums, no one should really notice anything different.

I read the forums all the time, but i don't necessarily make posts.

Knock yourself out i say and if you find a buyer here, well done.

hi tamike

were these cars from the oakey to cooyar line?

Hi

This is all I know about the carriages.

The guys at Rosewood have been very helpful hunting up information for me.

'The coffin car'. He thinks it may have originally been a mail van as

> it has

the

> right shape and the doors look the part but without a number, it is

> impossible to say.

> BGV483 was originally a CLV with 5 compartments. One first class and

> one second class (both non-smoking) compartment had toilets. The other

> first class and two second class smoking compartments had no toilets.

> There were a number of similar carriages and they commonly appeared on

> suburban trains, were sometimes used on Gympie/Bundaberg trains and

> were also used on mixed trains (goods trains with passenger

> accommodation attached).

> CLV483 was converted to CLV483 in 1980, losing several compartments to

> the enlarged guard's compartment. It is not known when it was written off.

If selling the vans separately....the price would not want to be more than $500 each and that is if they are in good condition.

I purchased 2 vans back in 1989 direct from QR in Townsville and they were in good condition and minus the bogies, QR sold them to me for $500 each.

MJ, unless you are a Moderator of which I very much doubt, I would keep my personal opinions to myself if I were you. If the moderators were to consider this to be an inappropriate post or thread then it would have been removed or locked. Considering that it hasn't, i would stop being a Railfan if  I were you. This is not the first time you have become a SELF- appointed cybercop and one day we can all hope that you will give up your silly games

Are the bogies for the carriages nearby at all? They don't look like they are in that bad a condition.

That Evans carriage looks preety good.

Cheers

Mic,

Does it matter? Even if all they have done is looked up Qld rail forums on the web and made a similar post in each one. Its still a QR related post that might be of interest to someone.

Get with the times MAN!

In 1989, you would have bought 2.5 acres in Calamvale for $72,000. Now 2.5 acres there is worth $1,000,000 plus.

The seller probably paid bugger all for the land and the carriges. Just let's see how much you can obtain and list a similar deal for.

There is a rule that commercial advertising must be cleared by a moderator before being posted. We probably won't have a problem with a private sale like this (if a manufacturer wanted to list products we'd be asking a few more questions), but still it'd be nice to be asked first please.

This site needs a For Sale category.

I know it's a big ask and the bandwidth would probably get "blown away" early each month.

Lets add a For Sale category for a trial period and watch the site hits go beyond the measurable limits!

Yeah, that's land you are talking about - real estate does tend to do that, but we are talking about a couple of OLD vans here if they were sold separtely  Rolling Eyes

What price would you be prepared to pay today in 2007 for a guards van you know only cost $500 in 1989??????

Yeh, let talk philisophically!

If I wanted a van like those and there were none available, I would pay the asking price or a lesser negotiated price if I found one.

If the seller is in no hurry to sell, I might have to pay more. If the seller is desperate, I leave my 2 phone numbers and walk away.

I'm sure of the extent, but the work done inside the van, altering it, might save me doing it and the value changes.

Also the condition and possible restoration costs are to be considered.

The vans may not be what an enthousiast is looking for if modified too much.

It's too hard to value in respect of apreciation or depreciation without factoring so many variables.

Thanks for all the feedback and advise. Still unsold but that is life. Hits on the site went from 72 to 800. I think a for sale section would be great.

We were always looking for parts and ended up paying crazy Ebay prices.
Very Happy
