aamslfc, it cannot be the 2:26pm Hornsby to Richmond as that train is normally a K Set.

Right. Thanks for that. I guess it'd be the 2:48pm service then?

I was on a bus that left Wynyard at about 2:20-2:25 and when we passed over the bridge it must've only just happened, as the driver was comming down from the cab, passengers were still reading aboard, and cars were slowly avoiding metal pieces in the far lane. So i'd put it around 2:30. It couldntve been a 2:48 service.

Elemetry my dear Holmes.

Using all the facts so far given by posters here.

It must have been the 209pm from Waverton North Sydney 212/221pm and Milsons Point 223pm service to Hornsby via Strathfield which is a R SET.

Just saw all the usual suspects whinging and whining on the news. When will all these smegheads realise that things can and will go wrong Rolling Eyes Exclamation

It may be an S-set actually. I'm pretty sure I could see more than 6 cars.

There weren't that many people on the train apparently, so I'm now inclined to call it the 2:21pm Nth Sydney-Hornsby via Strathfield service.

EDIT: I just saw TE's post and I agree.

Channel 10 seemed to think there was the grand total of 22 people on the train. Would lend weight to it being the 1421 ex-North Sydney...

7News thought so as well, so the 2:21pm would be the logical choice.

The channel 10 reporter said 'it is an Eight car suburban set'
So, R44/34 were coupled together 4 x 4. Question I know one of the R sets run as a 4 cars set.

According to Vince Graham doing a interview on 702 abc sydney, a maintance hatch fell off the roof of this R or S set.Accoriding to Vince Graham it was the 'high winds' that made the hatch fall off. How could this be possible when he said the hatch was double clipped?

Also this incident happened around 2:30.

I had to walk from Milsons Point to Town Hall, there bridge was chocka full of people, the only repair effort I saw was 2 guys on a huge ladder up to the panto line, I guess they are waiting to after peak to close lane 1.

Bahahaha ... quoted from the SMH article
Quote:
One young woman was crying as she spoke to a transit officer, asking him how she could get out of the city. All he said was: "I don't know, everything's gone down so I don't even know.''

Ch7 was quick to show a nice short quote from some woman saying "oh gawd, itz like a third world country!"

I don't understand people like that, it'd be impossible to blame Railcorp for that... High winds cause damage everywhere. May as well blame Energy Australia when a tree brings down power lines...

Didnt a very similar event occur recently (a couple of months ago) when an "unlatched" upper hatch blew onto the overhead causing the same grief?
IIRC the news services got that one balls up too calling it a northbound service when in fact it was a southbound that had just left Milsons Pt and never made it to the bridge.
Remember Vince coming on the tube saying that "it wont happen again as we are double checking the latches before they enter service"
Well I guess Flemo will get the blame again for this one Evil or Very Mad
