Panda bears from Chinese zoos often have double names like Ling Ling.
Double names (or whatever you call them) are often given affectionately to members of the gentler gender.

In case anyone is interested, I heard on the TV that the meaning of "Wagga" is crow, and "Wagga Wagga" means many crows. Presumably the other double names mean many of something also.

Yep. It's generally accepted as a plural formation.
BTW, somebody upthread mentioned Cullen Bullen. Just to point out that the two parts of that name DO NOT rhyme.
Cullen is pronounced with a short 'u', and Bullen is pronounced with a long one. Just think "Cull" and "Bull", and you'll be right.
It is an old Aboriginal name meaning "Place of extra fingers".

MicroSoft Word doesn't like double or repeated words.
That is OK if you write say "it it is" because that is an error.
But MSW treats "Wagga Wagga" as an error too.
About the only workarounds is to write "WaggaWagga" or "Wagga_Wagga" combining the two words into oneword.
