Still, automatic signalling to HBE will make life so much easier. Still, frustrating that Diamond Creek does not have a Home Departure signal on the lefthand platform (facing Melbourne).

Why so glum about modernising the signalling? Train Staff is a nice historic relic but has no place on a suburban railway system....
It comes with being a mmber of the McKenzie in H.O. Lland clan.

Why not have two 3-car sets providing the shuttles beyond Eltham?

I reckon all you'd need is 400m of dobule track south of 'Creek and take a minute out of Wattle Glen to Hursty.
