Well I trekked out to Tarago today in the rain. I got there at 1720, looks like the train left Tarago on time at 1710 Sad

There were a few container-flats and one (60 foot?) container at the "intermodal terminal".

Hopefully more luck later in the week.

Does anyone have accurate times for the Fuel Train through Tarago?

Cheers,
Justin

Missed it again, narrowly I think. I got to Tarago at 5.55pm, the light facing up trains approaching the Tarago road crossing was amber, which I think indicates that a train has just passed. There were people at the container terminal, big lights lighting up the whole place, the huge fork-lift was still running, there were 3 large (60 foot?) containers on three separate container flats. I headed up to Goulbourn hoping I might catch it. At Goulbourn station, there was an Explorer leaving. Further south (near where the line passes under the Hume Hwy) a Freight Australia Grainy was idling. It pulled off shortly after the Explorer got out of the way. Sounded good with two ELs and two Ts working hard.

Just as the FA up-grain came through Goulbourn station, a Super-freighter with three NRs came through on the down, making good speed. A few minutes later I noticed it had stopped just south of the Goudbourn Rail Workshops. It must have been pretty close to full length, seemed to go on for ever. It started moving off so I drove to Coles Lane, but must have stopped again as it hadn't come through after 10 minutes so I headed home. I assume there must have been some problem to cause it to stop like that after nearly blowing the old station building off the platform at Goulbourn.

No sign of that Garbage train - wonder if it was held at Joppa Junction trying to get a path onto the main?

Wrong. All the signals in Electric staff (and staff and ticket) are controlled signals, not autos. The signal you saw at Tarago (the up home, on the Bungendore side of the crossing) shows yellow when it is cleared for an up train. I would suggest the train was still at the garbage siding, or between it and Tarago.

Collex are doing the rounds of the media today saying that trucks started tipping rubbish at Woodlawn yesterday.

Has anybody actually seen the Taragarbo yet?

The WTT says FreightCorp, which means PN.

I'm told that the rubbish trains are terminating at Goulburn at the moment due to the sleeper replacement program on the Canberra line.

Anyone know how big those "55 wagons" are? Two or three containers each? Are these specially modified containers? How does the rubbish get in and out?

The wagons used are NQIX AND NQHX type 40 footers with one specially built 40 foot container with one large door the width and hight on one end and a small door about the size of a standard house door on the other end

The containers are placed into what is known as the slug packer(weighing over 300 ton) the waste is dropped in to the packer from above and formed into a loaf, a VERY large hydraulic ram then pushes the loaf into the container, the container is the lifted out of the packer with a forklift on to the train. Each container weighs about 30ton.

When the train arrives at Crisps Creek the containers are transferred onto trucks for the 8KM trip to the mine site. The truck backs on to a special transportable unloading rig detaches the prime mover then the trailer with the container are tilted about 80 degrees and the loaf slides out

They estimate the can place 100,000 ton for the next 20years and only fill a third of the hole!

I dont ride trains I know the people that drive them !!!!
