Anyone know how big those "55 wagons" are? Two or three containers each? Are these specially modified containers? How does the rubbish get in and out?

The wagons used are NQIX AND NQHX type 40 footers with one specially built 40 foot container with one large door the width and hight on one end and a small door about the size of a standard house door on the other end

The containers are placed into what is known as the slug packer(weighing over 300 ton) the waste is dropped in to the packer from above and formed into a loaf, a VERY large hydraulic ram then pushes the loaf into the container, the container is the lifted out of the packer with a forklift on to the train. Each container weighs about 30ton.

When the train arrives at Crisps Creek the containers are transferred onto trucks for the 8KM trip to the mine site. The truck backs on to a special transportable unloading rig detaches the prime mover then the trailer with the container are tilted about 80 degrees and the loaf slides out

They estimate the can place 100,000 ton for the next 20years and only fill a third of the hole!

Once in the hole, do these loaves get seperated or compacted level with catterpillars or what? Containers return on train right?

Cheers
Dean
