Does anyone know when it starts? And if so what times it will be running? I think the Canberra Times said some time back it would be starting soon and would run at night...

Latest is the first train will be on 23rd August, then 4 or 5 test trains over the subsequent fortnight before the full service starts.

Collex is quoting up to 55 wagons per day, which sounds a lot but rubbish isn't very dense. Motive power will probably be 2 x 81.

That's less than 30 garbo trucks. Only a small fraction of what Sydney produces each day.

Whilst residential garbage is not dense it does lend itself to compression.

A SMH article quotes trains of containerised garbage on 55 wagons with net load of 1200 tonne. A pretty picture of the big hole to be filled in is also on the page. The URL is below -

This isn't railway related but how much rubbish does sydney produce each day.

Well the SMH article says the train will be taking 20% when its in peak operation. I recon it bodes well for the future of the project if it can do that for 70 years. There has to be a good chance it might end up being expanded to take bigger trains as Sydney continues to grow.

Anyone know how big those "55 wagons" are? Two or three containers each? Are these specially modified containers? How does the rubish get in and out?

I guess Mondays train will answer some of those questions.
Justin
