You can reskin absolutely anything in Trainz, assuming you have permission...

Paintshed isn't all that a comprehensive reskining tool, basically it is aimed at those who have very little computing experience.

But it does give you a basic skin to work off and improve on using photo editing software, and there are a fair few good examples of combining paintshed and third-party software on the DLS, one that springs to mind is a FreightCorp 48 class, that is all nice and dirty and weathered, looks sweet! Very Happy

Well thanks for the help, or lack their of.

Yes paint is a POOR program for this kind of work, I know that and plan on using much better software.

Can ANYONE help me with how to reskin paintshed models with out a functioning paintshed program to begin with?

File editing doesn't scare me, I played with MSTS enough to know how to stuff things up, and then how to fix them.

Help would be appreiciated.

Go to Program Files -> Auran -> [version] -> World -> Dispatcher -> Downloads.

Find whatever it is you want to reskin.

Copy the folder into your the World -> Custom -> [asset type] folder.

Open the config.txt file, change the kuid to yours.

Open the texture file you want to edit (eg .tga, .bmp, etc) with your editing prog.

Save.

Load Trainz.

Done.

The only way to reskin Auran models without Paintshed is to purchase the Content Creation Art Source CD's, extract the model and associated files, and alter the skin in a program like Photoshop, create a directory structure and config for the new reskinned loco and export it.

Could also do the same for downloaded content (get permission though).

But I would first suggest getting your Paintshed problems sorted out, go to the Auran Trainz forum, and post the error messages your receiving, Trainz version, and system spec's to the Technical Help forum. If no one is able to solve the problem from there, send the details to the Auran helpdesk.

Thanks Michael, finally a some help I can use.

I can't be bothered trying to get the paintshed to work as I plan on getting TRS soon. But I want to experiment in the mean time, and now I finally have an answer that will help.

Again Thanks michael.

When I try to run paintshed it just comes up with error, and then it doesn't open. I suspect the CD is scratched, as it installs OK, but won't run.

ps i'm using UTC

Sounds like you haven't installed the Paintshed DirectX 9 patch.

Download it here.

Cache Ya,

No need now, I have TRS. But thanks for the link, it should be handy if I decide to back date.

You can reskin anything anytime you want. Who gives a rat's a*** wether you have permission or not. If it is declared an infringement of copyright it is usually netiquette to have the file removed from the website. Duh Rolling Eyes

Great! So that means I can go to the National Gallery, steal a Van Goch painting, copy it, change the signature on it and sell it as my own?

No? So then, should I tell that to all the other 3d modellers on the Railpage Australia™ and Auran forums? I'm sure they'd love to hear your opinion, contact details, name, age, etc Smile

Having a bad day today, Huh ?
Feeling a little bit anti-social and angry at the world ?

Take a deep breath and relax, thats it...you'll feel better for it. Now, I want you to say, I can do this, I can be nice to other people and respect their individual views and opinions. I can respect other people's rights and their valuable place in society.

See, it wasn't that hard now was it ?

Pffft to you all.

I used paint shed and micro$oft paint to do the 48 class loco's that are on the download station. They aren't 100% correct but i think are reasonably close.

these haven't been updated to TRS but should still work ok anyways.

I want to reopen the Corowa - Culcairn Branchline, can anyone help?

Cheers,
Aaron
