I visited Tasmania on the above weekend and was shocked to see NO TRAINS. i came on the ferry and went to Hobart and Lawncestern and did not see one train. I was also very disapointed about hobart but thats another story. Whats the go down there don't they run to a timetable? don't they run everyday?

trains run every day. a lot of them run at night or early in the morning. it surprises me that you did not see one train, but when travelling on the highway it is a matter of getting lucky sometimes. had you braved the backroads down south maybe you would have had more luck.

they run to a vague timetable down here, so next time you come down PM one of us friendly tasmanian members and we might be able to help you Smile

what was your disappointment with hobart? apart from it being hobart... Wink

I used to travel weekly between Launceston, Hobart and Burnie. The only places to see trains even infrequently was Anthill Ponds-Tunbridge, sometimes north of Conara Jnct if you knew to look, and east of Deloraine. There's just not the daytime traffic. We had a 3 day stay at Camp Clayton for my son's diabetes camp once - that was pretty good.

Nightlife? You went to Tassie looking for nightlife? Very Happy

yay! somebody who thinks the same as hobart as i do, look as far as a big city goes, well its not one. heaps of people i know go on "road trips" to hobart, they think its awesome, but well i constantly tell them that hobart is 2 hours away, whereas melbourne is only one hour away!
