No.

I'll check tomorrow, and if nobody gets it, I'll post another clue.

That's an attention-getter!

The jucntion never had a station attached, and a junction still exists on the other side that also doesn't have a station

No-one's managed to get it so far. JoM, there's one junction you've missed.

I'll post a helper clue, still worth one point :

In the 1947 Book Of Signals, the signals on one of the lines were normally crossed (as per Regulation 91)

Work out which line, look in the up direction.

The Flemington Racecourse line was normally that way, but the only closed "junction" nearby is the junction to the former goods lines at Kensington. But both junctions (Kensington and Newmarket) have stations, so that can't be it.

However, it does suggest a closed junction that I didn't list. Perhaps Williamstown Racecourse was in the same boat regarding the signals (but for different reasons?*). And the junction for that was quite close to the existing Altona Junction. Neither junction, strictly speaking, ever had a station. The nearest station, which doesn't have an equivalent suburb, was Mobiltown.

But there are two problems with this answer. First, the second clue, by using the words "on the other side", indicates that the station that is the answer is between the two junctions, which Mobiltown wasn't, and second, the rules for this quiz state that the answer has to be a station or signalbox that is available for use, which Mobiltown isn't.

Maybe I'm just still overlooking a closed junction somewhere else.

*—The signals were normally crossed on the Flemington Racecourse line to allow it to be worked as a siding when not required for Race or Show traffic. I doubt that any similar reason applied for the Williamstown Racecourse line.

I didn't read those rules, which I should have done, and also I was under the impression the junction point for the Williamstown Racecourse line was on the down side of the site of Mobiltown station (based on the remains of overhead catenary poles), and I will bow to John of Melbourne on this one.

Yes, folks, the answer is Mobiltown.

I believe John of Melbourne has the floor and can do a bit better than me.

Mobiltown was built after Williamstown Racecourse was closed and dismantled, but I'm sure that the junction was on the up side of where Mobiltown was later built.

For three points:
I was closed in the 19th century.

No, not Cremorne. And if you are following very carefully, you should have known that it could not be Cremorne!

Alamein was actually first buit after the outer circle was reduced to Camberwell-Ashburton. So says the historical info boards along the bike track there. Smile

Not Greenwich, Pic-nic, or Salt Water River. And for the same reasons that it is not Cremorne (I'll explain this later).

Not Alamein either, at it was not even built then, as EvanC correctly said.

For three points:
I was closed in the 19th century.

For two points:
I became a junction a couple of years after I opened.
