Hi Guys, My Fist post to the site
. I haven't been living Tasmania for 10 yrs and miss the the sound of The English Electrics climbing up the bank between Bridgewater and Brighton with a loaded train. The only way to get my fix is to head down to Queenscliff (I live in Geelong) and be there at the right time when the 2 X class are working.I remember X 3 from when at high school in Tasmania and being allowed to ride in the cab from Newtown to the city back when Hobart had a suburban service and none of the insurance hassles of today,Also the Yclass as well. The Y class loco Sir Charles Gardner also rode in the cab of that loco as well.Recently while in WA holidays I had the very rare privilege of having the opportunity to drive a English Electric loco(a preserved unit) under surpervision of coarse. And I enjoyed every minute of it a dream come true. The E.E's are truly one of the best locomotives ever built and more reliable than their american counterparts down In Tas.I hope that PN Tas will decide rebuild the Z,ZA, and remaining ZB class's as there is a lot of life left in those fine machines yet and will out live the ex N.Z and QR GM units.
Steve

Nice memorys you got there Steve but sorry to say, but the ZB will either be rebuilt into ZR spec or scraped later on and the Z and ZA are having faults after faults. So the EE locos running in tassie could come to end soon.

well i have lived in tasmania for 10 years and i have to say that i never used to like the EE's, but after my trip down to new norfolk in november last year they certainly have grown on me.
they have a very unique sound and it will be a sad day for all when we have to say goodbye to full EE trains running in this state.

I agree with all of you in that it will be very sad indeed to not hear them running. I live in Devonport on a bank that overlooks the Horsehead Creek area and to hear them power up the grade there was magic.
Most of the engine noise now is GM and not EE.

Well yesterday would of been a good day for EE sound in Burnie. Only the 2 Y class locos working. although 2150 sounded a little strange for some reason.
