Railcar DP22 & PT3 - MIA / AWOL

Dubs... is operationable but has a problem with the grate and with the recent dry weather it has been decided that it is too risky to run in so it is being reated in the shed/being fixed.

X4, like Y6, needs a run in on the load tank. AFAIK that is all.

DP22 & PT3 are currently stranded at Inveresk. Recent events have stopped any mainline trips in the immediate future, hope this situation will be remedied in a timely fashion so not too many trips have to be cancelled.

This basically boils down to that for the time being DRR will operate with the 10 class, and the V (2).

Nope, alive and well. Open every Saturday and Sunday, and running trains twice a month.

A bit happened for the Don River Railway today.

When Pacific National suspended tourist railway's operating agreements in mid-Jan after a run of minor incidents, none of which compare to 12 wagons in the bunker at Colebrook golf course, this left DRR's DP22 & PT3 stranded at Inveresk - as they were being stored to run day trips from Launceston through the summer months (the majority of which were cancelled, or in the case of the Rail/cruise the rail section of the journey was replaced by a bus).

Today DP22 & PT3 were allowed to return to Don, empty - so it would appear that PN are obviously concerned with safety of the public on the poor track, which is understandable.

Here is some photos of varying quality from this morning:

Just came back from a trip to Hobart and parts further south where I took a ride on the re-opened 2' Ida Bay railway...

I didn't really know anything much about Ida Bay until I visited it yesterday - It didn't get a mention in the ARHS Rail Routes book (but was listed in the Quail Tassie Atlas which I looked up when I got home). A fascinating little line with an interesting history - all in all, a good bit of fun.

Oh, and managed to get some really good shots of 2151 shunting the Hobart yard near Macquarie Point just before jumping on the plane home...

Cheers,
Dreadnought

No probs...

It was the last train of the day and the light was fairly smeggy but here's a selection...

Ida Bay Town/Cemetary Platform. Train stops here so you can see some pioneer graves.

At the Jetty Station. Facilities include a platform, a fairly tight balloon loop, a run around loop, several sidings, a toilet/shed building and a picnic rotunda. There were also a couple of people camping in the station grounds when we visited.

The train at the station with the remains of the approach to the loading jetty on the left.

Loading_Jetty (Railpage Image Gallery)
The remains of the loading jetty approach. There are also a few other relics of the railway around the site including several old steel limestone bins and a couple of bogies.

Cheers,
Dreadnought

Very good pics there Dreadnought, Ida Bay is a fantastic little railway. Its a pity they didn't keep with DRRs contract to use the Hunslet steamer.

Thats true, but hopefully the Hunslet will be riding the rails again, this time at the Redwater Creek Steam railway in Sheffield.

Not sure how far work on this locomotive has progressed in the last few months, will check up on this over the weekend.

Steamfest was held over the March long weekend, as it is every year. Early reports are that is was a sucess, but the point of view from many who came through the Don River shop on sunday was that it was disappointing that the historic machine display at Sassafrass was a seperate event...

Here are some of my photos from the day, unfortunately everytime I managed to get away from my duties the sun would disappear behind the clouds.

Z1NP2 was also on hand wiht his camera and has some great shots in his galley.
