Five Car Jumbo on Belair Line

Something you won't see everyday, but a five car Jumbo passed me on the Up at 1617.  My guess is the 1635 Up Belair, formed by 2117/2008 failed and a three car set was sent out on the rescue mission.  It passed me as 2107/2004/2110/2008/2117.

One thing I forgot to mention in my previous post.  The doors on the LHS of 2008/2117 were open, suggesting to me that the train failed at Belair.

5 Car Jumbo on belair line, must be the first time ever?. Luckily it was going down the hills because because imagine the trouble 2004 would have getting up the hill if it had to tow a dead 2008-2117. Another example of an original coloured jumbo and Admet colored jumbo. But once the train gets back to Adelaide and unloads. the 3 car set would be stuck at Adelaide station once they decouple the dead 2008-2117 from the 2004 set. Or is it possible to control 1 power car on a multiple unit Jumbo consist?

Yes, the lead car can still operate aslong as the power car is operational. If the power car has failed then you definatly need assistance.

That would be the only reason why a 5 car set would run on the Belair as 3 cars is the max on the Belair line.

Nice to see that I have been quoted, and misquoted.  Presumably the damage to 2008 or 2117 wasn't major as they did the 0955, 1255 and 1555 Down Belair services as per normal.

Yet again Tom you are wrong, there has been a 4 car set, and yes I know the platforms are too short but remember the old Tambelin station? That didn't stop TA running 3/4/5/6 car sets did it? All it needed was 2 PSA's to travel in the back car to tell passengers that the rear car was only stopping Keswick/Goodwood/Mitcham/Torrens Park/Eden Hills/Blackwood and Belair (After clearing the signal entering the yard) If the signal cabin was still there I would have photos to show you... Ring up TA and tell them that St Johns Grammar would like to take 250 kids to town, not on a charter, but infact a service train, TA did it... With a 4 car 3000/3100/3100/3000 set!

Dont stop the train at the mirror. Stop it at the end of the platform and maybe the whole train can be accesable.

does any one know if 2117 will be ok??? need it to be ok for w/ends (love that little railcar

ok and the thing about the door failure..... it may be any station. I rode railcar 2117 have the doors wide open on the oppoiste side than the platform was at goodwood travelling to belair. the correct side was also open but when the train left the oppoiste side doors were still open and the correct side closed...

But i am not saying you are wrong, but there is a possibility of this happening again to 2117...
