SMU 261/262 on CityTrain #1FX3 to the Ekka. Earlier in the day, Premier Bligh had travelled to the Ekka on these Units.

I noticed that TransLink hasn't yet gotten around to screwing up the livery on that set.

The QR CityTrain has been covered over on the sides, but QR CityTrain remains on the front. As much as I would like to blame TransLink for the removal of the CityTrain decals, it is actually QR.

Had the weirdest VAS announcement this afternoon on the train heading to the city. Coming into Park Road the VAS announced "We apologise for the delay to this train however wet weather outside is hampering our performance".

The guard wasn't using the VAS so I assume their was a wrong button pressed but it was quite amusing nonetheless esp being a lovely sunny day and the train wasn't that late either.

Wow. That's like hearing that "This is a test message. Testing! 1... 2... 3... 4......" and it just drones on for an eternity. Worse still, it seems to be blared across the speakers like it's a rock concert or something.

Just a small technicality ... the Guard does not activate the VAS, the Driver does. I won't go into the actual setup process, but it is different for different types of train.

So keep your feet of the seats and avoid a fine.

Comes complete with an accompanying scrolling message saying something like "Keep your feet off the seats, penalty of $150 applies..." on the LED screens.

Speaking of - can anyone elighten me on the system behind those train numbers, or are they pretty much semi-random? ie, given the train number, can you work out it's departure & arrival stations, express running, etc, etc?

Thanks for that, I just always assumed it was done by the guard as they normally do the announcements.

Still was a nice change from This is a test message.....
