AFAIK- another way of saying "oh bother" without smeg substituting.

But hey, your interpretations are pretty good, too Razz
Oscar, here's some more acronymic ones you may/have encountered:

Can I put my two shillings worth in here?...Some people type text on their mobiles and some type in chat-room text. I prefer to use acronyms when posting a quick response, but also use punctuation in a post. There are those whopostwithoutusingpunctuationmarkstostate a point. Get my drift yet?
As for all caps...some keyboards do not have an LED to say you are on caps......and who wants to delete a few paragraphs of type to satisfy the allcaps rule if one hits a wrong key?

Doesn't your computer have a screen either?

Doesn't hurt to look up from the keyboard every couple of lines to check that what you type actually comes up on the screen. This is the way I have improved my typing skills from horrific to usable in a matter of months.

Its not a race to enter posts on this or any other forum, its not a typing pool or a teleprinter on a ship or an aircraft where you have to get the message out at the blink of an eye, just take your time.

As long as you've got a working computer monitor, you shouldn't need a LED to see whether you are typing in caps or not.

I just discovered another grey word:

thru

Is this allowed to be used as some timetables etc. still use it, or would the faimly at Railpage Australia™ like to use the full 'through'

Because of limited space, timetables often use codes and abbreviations. Posts here are not timetables, so regardless of what other justification there may be for using "thru", that particular justification doesn't apply here.

Personally, I'd type out the whole word.

Personally, I don't generally look at the little LED light which indicates that 'Caps Lock' is on. I just look at my moniter (I generally touch-type anyway, but that's beside the point) to make sure my text is coming up as I want it to.
Also, SpellCheck is a very good tool that more people should use Wink (Oh, and I am not saying my posts are completely mistake free, but there are some posters on here..... I think you know what I mean Smile)

Thanks, Pete.

Internet Acronyms
A list of some commonly used acronyms on the Internet.
Go nuts.

IMHO, the word "thru" & the symbol "&" should be acceptable. If a "certain person" or persons keeps posting up long sentences with "&" glueing 'em (is 'em ok?) together, then moderate his or her posts.
In saying that, I think the Mods are doing a great job & I have never had any probs with anything they have said or done, keep up the good work.

Wow, I am in trouble, I have been using the & (and symbool) for ages.

Never knew that it was banned.

If it is on your keyboard then it should be acceptable, just as long as it is not in text speak or Hindustani or some such other language, English is the preferred language even if it is American English! Heeyaw! Very Happy

I am text speak and Hindustani illiterate, so no worries.
