Hi all,

I just noticed (while my wife is watching Dancing with the Stars) that Chris Bath's voice is incredibly different talking normally compared to when she is reading the news ...

I've also noticed before that there seems to be almost a "standard voice" that some networks go after with female news presenters (although I can't remember who)

Would they/do they do any sort of voice alteration for the news, or is it a case of different enviroments / different sounds?

Cheers,
biqua

I would say that in the news room it would be a lot more controlled. By that I mean that they would be using high quality mics, and there wouldn't be any ambient noise. Doing a show live in front of an audience like dancing with the starts would let lots of other noises into the microphones and decrease sound quality because of being in the open. Also they have danced for a couple of minutes and are probably very much out of breath. Wink

it was little video snippets too, but I'm really quite curious if there is a "target" sound they think the public want to hear the news in ...

I'm not sure about voices but I get the impression that News Presenters are covered in makeup before they appear on television.

I got this impression when I saw Sandra Sally present a conference in Darling Harbour.

Thanks
Geoffrey

You should hear radio announcers' voices in real life. They all sound like Barry White on air but in real life are like jockeys!

Yeah Yeah we all know you were watching too. I watched a bit I'll admit until "The Bill" started. Seeing you mentioned Chris, she looks alright IMHO. May win! There will be a DWTS thread started by someone soon I am sure.

Reminds me of the... I think it was D-gen in the 90's:

"That wraps up this bulletin. I'm Gina Hardfacedbitch. Get stuffed."

Hendo was very good because he had writers who wrote for him: "Dramatic scenes todaaay, as...."

Ross Symonds was very good. Technically brilliant, but not the character of Henderson. I think my favourite is Jim Waley, with as one reviewer put it, "senatorial gravitas".

I have meet Sharyn Gidala (how ever it is spelt) from Ch9. She doesn't wear much makeup at all, both on TV and in normal life. She lives in the appatment block where my brother lives in Sydney. She is rarther nice on the eyes and has a nice voice to boot.

The female presenter on Midday News and Business on ABC is a dead ringer for one of the BBC newsreaders who has the piss taken out of her on Dead Ringers.

While we're on the subject of news readers, who do you think is the most attractive newsreader or presenter of a news/current affairs program?

Sandra Sully was my pick but she's getting old and the wrinkles are starting to show (make up can only hide them to a certain extent). Melissa Doyle from Sunrise is nice.

Most recently, Indira was a presenter of the cricket program on SBS "Under The Grandstand".

Indira is based in Adelaide so you might have more chance of seeing her if you move there.
