Thanks tons Grey_Ghost.

37-1979-36-110-1910-42 has one Metrovick (on 37M) and Faiveleys on the rest.

And I thought it was just my hair standing on end Laughing

In the past I have used this system to exclude a set from a distant sighting , identifying a particular set by its pantos is a great idea Michael.
I am often stuck in traffic and sight a Hitachi hundreds of metres ahead going through a crossing and frustrated that I cant see the numbers.

M23 spotted at Camberwell headed to Alamein around 5pm this arvo.

Another Hitachi on a down Belgrave, if one can believe the desto roll at East Richmond about five minutes later.

I saw 144M-1919T-9M-233M-2007T-23M heading down to Frankston on Monday 25th (it would have been scheduled to depart FSS at 8:17).

At the time, I hadn't seen any reports of 23M being sighted since it left Newport. I now see that it was sighted on the northern group on the Friday before.

7M now has connex front stickers, looks ok. The other carriages of that set are getting them soon.

Looks like 7M will be leading when it gets back in service.

I saw that set a week or two ago, as per the top of this page. I just didn't write each number out... Also, psr85 posted that 'M23' was lurking about around Camberwell. Wink

My sighting for yesterday: 10M sat alone in the Ringwood yard for possibly the whole day. Seen at around 15:50 from my Lilydale-bound X'Trapolis, and then at around 21:00 on the way back from Mooroolbark, in the same spot.
196M on the other end was facing Lilydale, partially hidden by a Comeng on the way back.

Connex stickers on a Hitachi, is that a one-off, or is something finally going to be replacing the drab-looking Met stuff on the last of the silver stock? Nice to hear that 7M is being prepped to run once again. If only they purchased a non-leading motor so 9M could be swapped and also lead a train.

I have spotted a few over the past few days

*On Monday the 17:10 Dandenong I think or was it on Tuesday ran as a hitachi

* An empty, no passengers service that sat on Platform 10 at Southern Cross for at least 10 minutes, 23M I think on Monday at 17:10 till around 17:20

* Another set around North Melbourne in the yards about 08:45 on Tuesday Morning

* Today at around 08:35 an unidentified hitachi at Southern Cross on Platform 10

* An up Willamstown train sighted around 08:30ish in the Southern Cross vicinity on Tuesday

Running Express from South Yarra to Caufield, Caufield to Cheltenham.

The reason I wanted to know was so I could tell you all that it's possible to tell apart all six Hitachi sets just from seeing their pantos - with the exception of two sets which have the same pattern.

10-1909-21-49-1987-196 and 46-1975-22-65-1982-88 both have Faiveley-Faiveley-Metrovick-Metrovick
197-1981-3-105-1999-178 has four Faiveleys
57-1922-184-179-1977-129 has alternating Faiveley and Metrovick
144-1919-9-233-2007-23 has four Metrovicks (one rear-mounted - the only rear-mounted panto car left)
37-1979-36-110-1910-42 has one Metrovick (on 37M) and Faiveleys on the rest.

Hopefully this will help you all know what you're looking at when you aren't close enough to see the numbers. Very Happy

Does either 10M set or 46M set have ex-D cars in them? You could tell them apart that way.

Set's 144M-1919T-9M - 233M-2007T-23M and 197M-1981T-3M - 105M-1999T-178M have ex D cars (2007T and 1999T).

And mjja, 57M-1922T-184M - 179M-1977T-129M has 4 Faiveley panto's, no Metrovick panto's.
