Wasn't Nyngan to Bourke closed after the floods in 1989, which would make it the end of the '80s rather than the mid 80's?

A. I didn't say it was mid eightys,

Hmmmmmmmmm.. no nibbles. Another clue to add to the ridiculous list of clues, its a branchline off the mainwest, but can only say beyond Narromine.

Newington, which main west are you talking about? Narromine is on the old main west but I can only think of two branches off that line beyond Narromine (Warren and Cobar) and they're both still open as far as I know (they were certainly both open during the 90s). So perhaps there's another that I've simply forgotten about.
If you're talking about the more recent western main line (to Broken Hill) then the Roto to wherever cross country line closed about this time but I don't think you could attribute that closure to flooding. Narromine, of course, is not on the BH line so it's hard to think of the line from Roto as being beyond Narromine.

Bourke was the end of the Main West line and it closed in 1988 or 1989 for memory after flooding took place between Nyngan Jnc. and Giralambone and between Tancred's sidings at Bourke and Bourke.
The line from Byrock to Brewarrina closed in 1974 following a flood too.
