Thanks for that bulldog. It was an area i was unsure about. I hated TG soo much that day though.

Thanks for your great explanation bulldog.
FTZ for only those with smartcards, paid fare for those with cash tickets....all those suit wearing people along the terrace better get a smartcard hahaha.
If I apply for a Student Smartcard will my full name be on this card? I don't really want my full name on this card cause if it got lost then people would know my details, am I better to get a concession smartcard based on my health care card?
*I might be forced to get a student smartcard if my university forces us to have the student card/smartcard in one.

I know that secondary students have their details on the card, however it is my understanding that the only university to participate in having the smartcard/student id card in one is Notre Dame uni. This may have changed recently however. Unless your university is participating in having the smartrider and student ID card as one, I am pretty sure your details won't actually be physically displayed on the card.
It is probable best to register a concession smartrider with whichever concession expires last, because whenever your concession is going to expire you have to re-register your concession smartrider, otherwise after your concession has expired you will be charged the full adult fare.
There is also a service where you can customise your card, with a photo etc if you want to, but I'm not sure which dealers provide this service.
Hope this helps.

The face of the seniors SmartRider has just the SR number but the back of the card which supercedes the old Seniors Card has one's name on it . As one's SmartRider"s particulars on Transperth's web site is protected by a password details of your transactions are protected. As I am a senior this does not concern me and the hot-listing feature enhances my protection but if one is on Newstart Allowance and you have a job on the side and get the concession SmartRider your movements on Transperth services are monitored as per the statement .There is no indication on the website as to how long beyond 30 days -details of one's account are held and unless Transperth indicates by means of a Privacy Notice how long the SmartRider details are kept and who has access to them I would advise that people such as those and others who wish to keep their whereabouts secret to buy cash tickets and dispose of them as soon as practicable.
Does anyone know how the allday thing is going to work with the new smartcard?

Seriously we all know the pta haven't really organised or planned smartrider very well. My main complaint is the lack of faregates at perth station especially at entrances which are important and are highly used by pax. For starters these are where extra faregates or smartrider readers should be installed. These locations also have multirider machines at present so would be viable.
- Two readers on posts should be installed on the concourse above platform one opposite the toilets.
- Two readers should be installed at that entrance to both platform 1 and two where the nmr office use to be.
- Faregates should be installed on that old bridge that span platform 2 and 6 for transfers from CAT and other bus passengers.
- Faregates or readers should be installed to the entrance to platform 4 (Thornlie services) as alot of passengers enter through that entrance next to platform 3 especially from CAT services.
Hopefully these locations are installed with smartrider facilities in the very short future.
Its going to be fun for me at freo when I want to go to the toilet and funny enough the toilets are on the otherside of the fare gates and we havent even been told if our staff id's are going to work with it or not.

Just enter through the gate where wheelchairs and prams go.
Also, it sounds like the pta have done a good job in training and informing the drivers about smartrider too. Not!!!
Cant do that, we have to jump over the gates or smash our way though and I aint paying for any damage ![]()

HaHaHa you big godzilla!!!!

I know that railway staff cards can go through the fare gates at no charge as we receive free train travel. I don't think that bus drivers have the same privledge.
But, as has already been stated, just enter throught the manual gate that is for prams and wheelchairs. If the gate is manned all you will have to do is show your staff id to the gate attendant.

Didnt know that there was a manual gate. I'll check that ot next time.

They should of just built a massive row of smartcard gates about 2-5m from the escalators. Instead they built as stupid CAFE (no offence to the cafe). What will happen is that people will go up the escalator during peak, it will get very slow people trying to pass the reduced number of gates or someones card doesnt work, a backlong of people will happen and people will fall over cause the escalator will keep pushing people to the top (as escalators do)...either build more faregates or do not have the escalator operating during peak times.
My student card has no expiry date in fact. Cause usually students have up to 10 years to finish a degree. Would my student card be sufficient to say I am a student? or do I have to print my semester timetable?

Your idea Ade of the placement of the faregates would be interesting and even a good photo shot. If they did stop the esculators it would annoy the elderly but i suppose not many travel during peak. The best solution that wouldn't break the bank would probably be is to have the faregates on an angle at the north and south entrance then have some green post ones. Would however restrict access from the convention centre to the city via wellington square.
I reckon they should put two fare gates at each entrance on the bus platforms for general passengers then people with prams etc use the lifts to go up to the concourse then tag off on the green posts next to the lift. This would be expensive as it would require 20 faregates spread out throughout the busport so this would result in more wiring or whatever. What do u reckon? probably see faregates at the busport in what 10 years?

i am on a uni smart-rider card and yes i thought about that too. But all you have to do is take your card and your enrollment details to a smart card seller and they will reconfigure the card for a new concession period.

The problem with the massive backlog of passengers causing people to fall backwards down the escalators is a problem that has already been considered. The contingency plan is that if this looks like it may occur the fare gate attendant will change the configuration of the fare gates and leave them open. There is also an emergency open at all the fare gates for these kind of situations, however a hefty penalty will apply if this is used when there is no emergency...

plus a large row of fare gates would of looked good ![]()

I worry I have too bad a memory to actually take part in a smartcard testing program unless I take a pen and paper with me to jot down what happens.

i have an elephants memory ![]()
too bad it doesn't work at uni LOL

The Trial has been extended until the system becomes 100% reliable. This means that Perth won't get it until 2106.
Below is the email they sent out today:
Dear Control Group Participant,
Thank you for your continued support in helping us implement SmartRider. The Control Group feedback we continue to receive has identified a number of issues that will delay the full implementation of the project.
These include the "Invalid Wait for Stop" message that many passengers are getting when alighting from the rear doors of a bus. This occurs when the bus is not in the GPS footprint of the stop. To overcome the problem, Transperth is identifying the stops where it occurs and making the appropriate adjustments to the GPS footprint.
Another significant issue is that some card transactions are giving incorrect commands when tagging on and off, which causes incorrect transactions to appear on your SmartRider account and, in some cases, default fares to be charged. Transperth is working with the software developers to resolve these issues.
To allow time to fully implement fixes to these issues, the SmartRider Control Group trial will be extended until we are completely satisfied that the system is 100 percent reliable and can be rolled out to the wider community. We will continue to keep you informed as to the status of the system and we look forward to your continued participation in the Control Group during this period.
As is the case already, any fare value that you use during this extended period will be refunded on a fortnightly basis. Your next refund will be processed during the week ending February 17, and will include any fares and card fees incurred but not refunded in the period to February 12. When your refund has been processed, the refund amount will be transferred to your card the next time you present it at a SmartRider processor.
Your feedback about the SmartRider trial is invaluable in helping us identify issues. We ask that you continue to report issues to the Transperth InfoLine on 13 62 13 or via email at enquiries@transperth.wa.gov.au
Though we do not issue individual acknowledgements, we will continue to analyse the feedback to identify any further issues that may arise, and modify the system where necessary.
Thank you for your time and continued help in moving us towards the successful implementation of SmartRider.
Regards Transperth Customer Service
