Not sure if this section or the "Preservation" section is most appropriate for this question, but is there any authoritative and up to date news on the current status of No. 19? Is it still at PWCS on display and being eaten up by the salt laden air out there?

No.19 is still owned buy PWCS but hasn't been on display since it was removed from its stand in 1997. The plan then was a cosmetic overhaul and display at Kooragang Island although this failed to happen.
So now No.19 is in storage well out of the way under the coal loaders on Kooragang Island.

Thanks for all the responses guys! I hadn't realised it had been taken off the "stand" over 10 years ago (how time flies ).
P Class - you say there is an S truck with the loco and van. I thought there were a couple of non-air hoppers in the old display at PWCS. Have you seen those, or have they gone elsewhere?
As with Paul's comment - I always found No. 19 elusive. It always seemed to be working at Hexham when I went to the SMR and at East Greta Junction when I went to Hexham!!!
The interesting thing about No. 19 is that it was withdrawn from active service in 1982 before the other members of the class and I don't think it ever had its buffers removed as it only worked out of Hexham in those last days when the 10 class on the SMR started losing their buffers. I think it was therefore the only 10 class loco always to have operated with buffers. Similarly, I don't think it ever recieved the bright orange safety paint on the running plate edges and buffer beams etc.

The reason that No.19 was withdrawn ealier than the remaining members and main the reason it was donated to PWCS is because it has a bent frame and is unable to be restorated to operational condition therefore its only use is static display.

I think also No. 17 has a bent frame.
Amazing No.19 was said to be one of the best in the class.

when the wagons and the No.19 were moved to Kooragang the wagons were stripped down and refurbished ready for re-display that didn't happen.
So therefore the wagons should be in very good knick

i did wonder why they were in such good nic, it ed be good to see them out of there, with the loco, and display them at maitland somewere for steamfest, in one consist, as a static display at least people will see the type of train hauled in the hunter many years ago

Thanks PClass and 4705-44201NB for the further info. Good to hear that the wagons and van at least are in good condition and that No. 19 is more or less complete still (given the way that non-ferrous fittings seem to "walk away" from steam locomotives!!).

No.19 was withdrawn from Hexham in Nov 1982 for a general overhaul. This overhaul was to be a fairly extensive one with 2 new cylinders to be fitted. The 2 unmachined cylinders were/are? sitting in the compound near the machine shop at East Greta Junction. 19 was next for a general overhaul after 25, but SMR closed before any work started on 19. Before being placed on displayat Port Waratah in Aug 1983 19 was stripped of any usuable fittings and the boiler tubes (copper & brass) were also removed.
