The 4D is basically a comeng in a tangara body.
Consistently the most ridiculous thing posted on this forum.
I have seen this come up a few times too.. now I don't know what the story is but personally I doubt this. The last time I rode the 4D was around '96/'97, so my memories of it aren't crystal clear, however I'm sure it sounded, felt and rode absolutely nothing like a Comeng. I always thought it was just a Sydney Tangara modified to suit Melbourne's rail system.
I still remember my first ride in the 4D and how weird it felt, especially in the lower level, where you would be looking out the window and the platform would be at eye level where you would be looking at everyone's feet, you could even see up women's skirts lol!!
It's a shame to see it go like that though... A nice modern train scrapped after such a short time.
Just out of curiosity, will they be leaving a carriage intact for the williamstown museum?
