I'll try to get up to Mandurah this weekend

- denshaotoko

I think you mean down to Mandurah if you live in Perth  Laughing

- Australind

Nope, from Pinjarra it's UP.  Cool

Unfortunately, real life cropped up, and the missus dragged me out on Peel Inlet for the day.

I'll try for this weekend, at least with the current weather forecast lighting conditions should be perfect for taking photos.

Also noticed a LOT of activity at the northern city tunnel end. Track appears to have been fixed down from ground level to tunnel entrance.

Near the "toy" car sales agent, an area has been set aside where short pieces of track appear to have been pre-assembled with sleepers. I assume that these are planned to be used for rapid placement when the connection is made between the tracks coming out of the tunnel and the current track on the Clarkson Line.

The big Speno machine is currently just north of the Narrows.

Last night it was on 3 or 4 low loaders waiting on the Riverside on-ramp until the southbound freeway was briefly closed so they could be lifted onto the tracks by two cranes in the bus lane.

It's a massive machine.

While looking at the last Track and Signal magazine for 2005 which has the Speno machine pasted all over it's front cover, there is also 2 small pictures of Allanah McTiernan with the machines and a manager. Didn't realise till now.  Smile

Massive?  Its their smallest grinder at only 16 stones.  Apparently able to take another module to make it 24 stones.

Seems like a hell of a long way to mobe a machine (as said in the Australian, from Sydney) for a small job.  I guess the political mileage is paying for or justifying the cost of the job.

The SSR (southbound track) is about two metres away from being connected up to the Fremantle Line. The switches are installed on the Fremantle Line (westbound) and sleepers are already laid down in the intervening 2m gap, but there is still about 2m of actual track missing on top of the sleepers.

Anyone know when the historic missing piece will be fitted?

You better consult Alannah McTiernan's  or Alan Carpenter's Appointment Books.

I noticed RG8 in one of your pics. So thats where that is. Last time i saw that it was working in Melbourne in the RFR project, I have got some awsome video of it grinding rails at night.

It must be tri gauge? Broad,Std,Narrow.

Certainly is.  An ugly duckling but has been a very busy duckling in the past three years or so.

Last I saw it was doing turnout grinding for Railcorp

All the station repeaters have gone up, signals are starting to appear everywhere which is a good sign, work is still being carried out on the Murdoch station.

SM Station Master

i've noticed that there is a crossover just cockburn central..

will trains run over directly into the northbound platform either/instead of reversing via the sidings?

if not, whats the point of having them?

It would be up to Train Control on when and how points are used, saying that it's pointless means that you may have not figured out why there would be points at both ends of the station.

It's handy to have points on both ends of the station because if the points on the siding failed then you can crossover over before entering the station and vice versa.
