It's funny... I get nailed by the grey shirts when I am dressed casually (with my No. 1 crew cut), and they demand my roll of film, blah-de-blah-de-blah, even though it was a shot of the repainted XP2001, yet when I am in my suit after work, they walk past (one of them was one of the idiots I encountered whilst dressed in the aforementioned fashion), and they don't give a rats. Smacks of double-standards to me. My challenge to them is "so you nail me, who takes a shot of a train, yet some of your mob passed me while I took a shot of my mates posing infront of a train. Either way a train is in my photo, and you don't care in the second situation or nail them for taking a photo on railway property?" The looks on their faces is generally priceless, and a good time to walk away.

They can't just demand your roll of film, just for taking train photos.

They've tried before. I don't budge. They've tried interrogation tactics on me (when casually I'm dressed, of course) and I just tune out and pretend to call my lawyer. They tend to back off after that, especially when I quote a badge number Razz

On the weekend, the only railway worker that spoke to me was when the 38 was on platform 1 and i was on platform 2. I was putting my big lens away and this guy asked me about the lens. that's all.

I can't really understand what these people are on about? Just trying to be the big man. Just tell them where to go and stop the harassment.

I think it comes down to people knowing what their rights are. The grey shirt SS will go after the vulnerable or the inebrieated and take advantage of them to further their means.

For a start let me say that i wouldn't give the time of day to any of the Transits, I don't like them and think they are a waste of space, the money should have been spent on hiring Police instead of these boof heads.

My opinion, of course, of which i am entitled.

Given the story in that so called " newspaper " last Sunday, i have been told it contained a photo or photos of Driver's sitting around and in their expert investigative opinion, these drivers were sitting around on " standby ".

Now having said that, i could fully understand if railworkers, especially soft targets such as frontline employees , were less than accommodating towards people wandering around Central taking photos.

If you were to point a camera at an employee i would expect him or her to front you.

Totally innocent as your intentions may be, given the climate around the time of the same papers story and photos regarding so called dangerous drivers with their blinds too low, in their expert investigative opinion of course, and now this latest offering from them, you may well expect to be bailed up more at Central next time you start wondering around taking photos.

So don't get annoyed with the worker, vent your anger at that paper and remember that the next time you go to buy the paper of a morning. Buy the other one!! Also tell them to shove their afternoon free paper where it fits.

Cheers, Edward.

With the availability of the news on line, I found it not essential to purchase newspapers for quite some time now.

They only get about 10% right if that. I know years ago I had some fish pictures on page three in full color Smile and after having spelt my name perhaps half a dozen times the gumps still got it wrong.

I really doubt if that has anything to do with it.

I can not see how anyone could have problems with taking photo's at Central. 3 weekends in a row I have not had a problem.

It seems to vary with where you are.

Nobody seems to worry if you are on platforms 1 to 3.
I have only been approached inside the contolled area, platforms 4 to 15
I have often taken photos of the end of platform 18, and have never been approached on the old "Central Electric" platforms.

On platform 2/3, a station assistant spent some time explaining some special workings and suggested places to photograph them to me recently.

Carrying a copy of the Hansard extract does tend to cause transit officers to admit that photography is allowed, which they might not do otherwise.
