Hey

I am just wondering if someone can experiment with a passager train and try to get the doors operating by pressing P instead of the pantagraph going up (if any on the train will remain up all the time), i have very little if no experience in modeling of trains i usually play around with activitys and route design, but if any one can maybe tell me how i could do this or do it them self much apreacated, a good train to start with would be the s-sets.

thanks

It's already been done!!!

In 2002, Richard Scott made a very nice set of London Underground 'R type' stock with working doors. As the model represents electric stock that picks up from third rail, he was able to use the pantograph key "P" to make the doors work. The stock will only work on MSTS routes that have been set as being 'electrified', even if no overhead wiring is visible.

If you're interested, it can be found in the downloads section of www.uktrainsim.com. You will need to register first to get the downloads.

I'm pretty sure you need the base files and to actually animate it during the building stages, so not by just downloading the end file.

I've done it on some of my electric cars, but the cons outweigh the pros. The doors operate nonstop in the 5 view, and can only be used if the car is an electric motor or coupled to an electric loco. Most designers would see it as a gimmick and pointless when there are no passengers.

It can be done, but is quite limited.

Cheers,
Matt

In sure there is a DST file available on trainsim.com as a experiment for just this.
I will look it up later today and post a link.

I think TransAdelaide is doing the "H-Type" Tram with opening doors and lowering step http://www.railpage.com.au/f-t11311940.htm

Has anyone ever tried to use that on a tangara. The tangara doors openning at the station would make it more life like!

MSTS bin now lets you open door's, but only if the model was built for it witch I think there is currently none. I also remember reading some were for either MSTS bin or using the P key they could only make the doors slide open, but don't quote me on that.

Taken from readme,
Quote:
Independent doors animation
In any wag you can define up to 6 doors. Doors could be grouped from any number of animated nodes, which must be unique named DOOR_A, DOOR_B, DOOR_C for right doors and DOOR_D, DOOR_E, DOOR_F for doors on left side of wag.
Distribution content sample wag to demonstrate 3 different types of animated door on boths sides of wag.
Animation trigers are defined in common.iom (txt) file:
io_map ( PAD_7 "ToggleDoor_R" ALL_UP CTRL_DOWN )
io_map ( PAD_9 "ToggleDoor_L" ALL_UP CTRL_DOWN )
You can soever redefine them

Aaron,

The door animations are part of the 3D model. Door animations to the existing Tangara model can only be added by the original creator. As they have not already done so you could safely assume that this is not going to happen.

The sure way that it could happen is if you (or someone else) builds a new Tangara model with door animations.

Download/purchase one of the supported 3D modelling programs for MSTS. See link below.

http://steam4me.railpage.org.au/trainsim/tutorials/which3d.html

Make your own 3D Tangara and texture it. You will have to create a set of 3D door objects called door_a, door_b, door_c, etc. The doors will have to be animated in the modelling program from the closed to open position.

Load into MSTS and press the NumPad 7 or 9 key to open/close the appropriate side.

If your quick and bright you should have it finished in a month or so (assuming you don’t build a cab or interior). Are you up to the challenge?

Hope this helps.

Cool thanks for the reply. Well I could but I have never built a 3D model before and that will cause it to take heaps longer usual.

I would download GMAX, cause its free and you can try it out. You will also need to download the trainsim gamepack for it from the MSTS site. I downloaded GMAX a year or so ago, opened it up and was scared away by how complicated it looked. Now ive just download it a few days ago, printed out a tutorial and are starting to learn.
