Here is the article which appeared in the May 2006 issue of Train Order concerning Vic.
Vale Vic Greensill
On 28 April while returning to Melbourne from Dimboola, Pacific National Driver, Vic Greensill lost his life in an unfortunate accident. Vic was aboard the afternoon train service from Ararat to Ballarat, being operated by a new VLocity train when it struck a semi trailer on a level crossing at Trawalla.Vic was highly respected and admired not only by his peers but railfans alike. I had worked with Vic many years ago and admired his dedication as a Driver and the interest he had from a fans perspective. I last spoke with Vic in December just prior to his departure for a holiday in Queensland.
In conjunction with the Rail Tram & Bus Union Locomotive Division (Vic), Brian Head (PacNat Driver, Melbourne) is managing a fund for the Greensill family. Should you wish to make a donation, it may be done in the following ways:
ELECTRONIC FUNDS TRANSFER:BL & VL HeadWestpac BankBSB 733-382, Account No.: 512674Or by sending a Cheque or Money Order in the name of Mrs J. Greensill C/o Mr B. Head22 Thurleigh AvenueCroydon, VIC3136All donations are greatly appreciated.
We also extend our sympathy to Ian Glasson & family (Locomotive Driver, Ballarat) whose mother also lost her life in the accident. Ian was the Driver of the train and remains in hospital with multiple injuries.
A great Engineman who will be sadly missed from the Footplate.

From T356,
To all you of you railfans out there, this was a man like you and me, except he got to drive his passion as well. By the sound of my conversation with Daryl Dedman recently, Vic was the sort of bloke that would put on a show for any photographer along the line with a smile, so lets dig deep for his widow.

The unfortunate circumstances that resulted in Victor Greensill's death has prompted certain PN employees to initiate the 'The Victor Greensill Workmate Family Assistance Scheme'.
Hopefully, with co-operation from all concerned at PN, this scheme will be able to assist the families of our lost brothers and sisters on the job.
And we hope even more that we never need to use this scheme, as these tragedies shouldn't occur.
Cheers

I wonder if Pacific National will name a locomotive in his memory

The name Vic Greensill rings a bell, was he a railfan by chance?

I noticed after returning on "The Overdue" from Dimboola on Mon. W/ some a friend/ & some new found friends that NR 9 had a picture of Vic blown up & taped over the NR. Corp Dimond loco on the front... a very fitting tribute I throught...

This arrived by email this morning from Daryl Dedman, SERIES 567 VIDEO.As part of the proceeds go to Vic's family, I urge everyone interested to place their orders with Daryl and Jeanette ASAP.
THE VIC GREENSILL TAPESKnowing of the video footage taken over many years by Vic Greensill, I contacted him in late November 2005 with the view to producing a DVD. Vic was very keen with the idea and passed his video tapes to us for viewing. The accident at Trawalla on 28 April 2006 put all plans on hold pending a decision from Vics wife, Jo, who was happy for the project to continue and has given her full support to this fitting tribute.
Series 567 Rail Video (Daryl & Jeanette Dedman) formed a partnership with Tony Marsden of Steam Media Productions to produce a DVD using footage taken by Vic in eastern Australia during the 1990s. After reviewing over 34 hours of footage, which contains some absolutely priceless and completely unrepeatable material, we have produced a two-hour DVD in this tribute program.
The history-filled DVD covers rail operations in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland on a variety of gauges featuring diesel, steam and electric traction. Tram fans are also catered for with a selection of scenes from the 1991 historic vehicle cavalcade. There are many gems, including:- ** The Cheethams Salt Works line at Laverton; ** Yallourn SEC electric railway;** ICI narrow gauge line at Deer Park, ** Triple C class on Jets; ** Triple S class on briquette drags;** Triple R class at Macedon;** Triple and quadruple T class travelling to Barry Beach; ** Triple parallel run with 3801, K 183 and R 766; ** Double H class on the Castlemaine Maryborough line;** P class on Leongatha passes;** B 61s last run on the Stony Point pass; ** Cane trains in the main street of Nambour;** Pre-electrification Brisbane suburbans;** Far north Queensland diesel and electric action - some on lines now closed;** Tuscan/gold and candy liveried locos in NSW; ** The beautiful VR blue and gold, and a multitude more. The action is filmed from lineside, parallel roads and footplates giving a great variety of angles.
As with Rail Victoria The Changing 80s,[Cat # SER 022D, $49.95], this DVD is two hours of absolute history and records an era that is now gone forever. Viewers are certainly in for a treat as the picture quality is something superb for what is essentially archive video. This production covers Vics sojourns around Victoria, NSW & Queensland and forms a fitting and memorable tribute to such a highly respected Engineman and railfan. Part of the proceeds from sales will be donated to Vics family.
Colour - Sound - Region Chapters - Narration. Original material sourced from high quality archival VHS footage and digitally mastered and edited for DVD-R replication. Duration: 120 minsThe DVD will be available from mid-February.
To order your copy of Vics Railways (Order Code: SER 036D), please send Cheque / Money Order, payable to Series 567 Rail Video or credit card details (Mastercard / Visa) for $49.95 (return post FREE), to:SERIES 567 RAIL VIDEOP.O. Box 239Heathcote, Vic. 3523
