At stations like Nowra and Scone, the Endeavour seems to just sit on the platform until it's time for the return service. On the other hand, I've had to get off a Moss Vale service several times because it needed to be put on another platform. Is there any list of stations where the train just stays at the platform? Is there any method behind figuring out stations that don't normally do this, but do for certain services? I was told at one stage that it's pretty easy to figure out from the timetable, but all I can think of are services that have to leave again in a few more minutes - I've had to get off some that don't leave for 1/2 an hour, but not others...

At Nowra, sometimes it gets refueled. So it isnt left on the platform there when grtting refueled.

Whaaaah! You've got two threads on this?

What's it matter if a train goes back off the same platform or not? When the train leaves the platform and comes back on another one it's still facing the same direction. You do know that, yeah? Good, just asking. What if it terminates, shunts and then returns off the same platform again, does that meet your criteria or not?

Basically that's a crazy 4rse question and you're freaking me out, man! Shocked

FieldShunt74, invictius is asking because he wants to sleep in them overnight, instead at cheap accomodation places, which is why I'm not going to answer & is also trespassing. Invictius, if ya want help, go the Smith Family.

Thanks Ron_D. I should have made the connection that invictius was the homeless dude. That's gotta be a harsh way to live.

You're being a bit rough there Ron - maybe invictus just gets to the station early and gets annoyed at being kicked of the train he's about to catch.

In most cases a train will sit at the platform unless either the only crossovers are past the station (pretty rare) or there is another train due through on that track before the terminating train departs. Nothing except passengr trains uses the platform road at Nowra, but through freights are fairly common through Moss Vale. Scone gets a few freighties but luckily not while the passenger trains are stopped there (even if they did it would probably be easier to send the freight though the loop than shunt the passengr train ovr to the loop). Dungog has it's own terminating platform so never has a problem.

So as you've been told in the past, look at the timetable and check whether another train is due through before the terminating train departs.

Newcastle Terminal.
Everytime 3801 visits as well as 3830, they have to run tender first to and through Hamilton and head towards Waratah then use the triangle there.
The great thing about tank locomotives such as 3112 and SMR 10, is they only have bunkers, and don't have tenders to push when heading away to Maitland again. No nead to turn around like 3801 & 3830 almost always have to. Unless running tender first to Maitland, but seems to be the other way around a bit during steamfest times, tender and bunker first to Newcastle Terminal, then smokebox first to Maitland.

At Martin Place, (and formerly at Lakemba & St James) a terminating train HAS to shunt into a siding and then depart from a different platform to that which it arrived on.

I'm not condoning his situation. I'm not saying he's not crazy for choosing to live like that or claiming that he has to sleep on trains. That's his business.

Being homeless for whatever reason would still be a harsh way to live.
