Make it sort of outer suburban route is all I can say. Long gaps between stations in a rural area but still served with a commuter service. Perhaps a few rolling hills and it would be perfect.

Why not call it "Vicline"?

I like fictional routes

Is it a shortline or mainline? Have you sketched a design for it with the siding locations, alignment, ruling grade, minimum curve radius etc. It can make it much more interesting. I did this with a couple of fictional routes I designed and it was quite fun.

If it's a general service branch, it doesn't need anything too fancy. One fictional route I built I just used the aboriginal name for the type of scenery it commonly passes through. Naming a route is not always easy, but in the end its the quality of it rather than he name that entices you to use it.

It might an idea to use DEM data, and once you have things planned, select the data for an existing line that is similar in landscape to yours. Undulating terrain is more pleasing to the eye than constant flat too.

Not sure if it's appropriate for VR but what about including a section of line down a main street, serving an Airport and with sections of tramway included.

Thanks
Geoffrey

I confess I am a fan of fictional routes. Smile

I'm building one at the moment that has all of the above! It's the greater suburban rail network of a fictional city, not unlike Melbourne in many ways. Eventually it's even going to have all it's own rollingstock as well. Some of it is already built.

Top idea Alax
.
MSTS'S biggest problem is in memory management (lack of).problem
especially in routes where the amount of shapes is just too much for the memory allocated..
Most users must at least have 1 gig of ram by now with the decrease in prices, but even then the limitations can cause the occasional crash.
If only someone could come up with Ultimate MSTS patch or better still a few.
Great Idea Alex but do like what SCRS did.
They approached us at team-ALCO and we rewrote all the files as we did for you and Alan with the version 3 updates. Now al the SCRS files are updated to ver 3.
At the moment ver3 has been done to all the SAR new releases.
Keep a look out for updates as Yuri updates all the wag ,sd files as we go along.
At least we do have all our gear running prototype pressures for Australia .and will all be compatable.
We are endeavouring to get all the files updated but Mike Simpson has
come to the rescue with a whole new editing suite that does the "Ant's Pants".
This add-on will only be available to the doners to the donation ware.
No set price , but have a think for a minute for the tme Mike has put in for the last few years and the pleasures we have ALL got rom his
amazing work.
As this program will also convert any locos, wags wit US brake standards to Aussie standards.
The brake section still in testing does amazing things to modern sparks ie a blended brake finally.
To be honest I thought I had 3 months work to update the steam4me site completely.
We are still tweaking a few errors but
most is done now with testing and the installers being time consuming.
When finally implemented it wil change the MSTST experience again.
Any donations can be sent to
attMIKE SIMPSONC/-team-ALCO PObox 77 Junee.NSW.
Contact me before release Alex.
Cheers
Ian.
PS Even if you send a tenner. or what ever you can afford.

I'm not sure how much planning has progressed since the last post, but have you got any particular landscape, alignment or type of scenery in mind? I could sketch up something hypothetical if you want.

Due to some problems i haven't done much (Snowed under with Evil or Very Mad Homework Evil or Very Mad and a pretty bad bike crash)

But i have built an in accurant yard that some-what represests Wangaratta in the 70's. But an invalid/corrupt track piece crashes the BG path part of the sim . i have managed to locate the problem and deleted the track pieces on either side. The sim now works but i need replace the corrupt piece so i can get accesse to some yards and loco sheds. I'll get some pics tonight hopefully.
