Gees, they even take the gauges! Shocked

If I ever win the lotto, I'm going to buy a big block of land somewhere, put a big shed on it, and when a loco is up for sale or scrap, I'll be there to buy it.

A big shed full of old locos.........I'm there! Like a kid in a candy store! Very Happy

Oh well, back to reality! Crying or Very sad

Cheers,

I'd love to buy a ZC from Pacific National. I'm sure I could find some room for it down at the Don.

Perhaps move 866 to..... Razz
Well if ZC32 does get scrapped, where its sitting atm, there would be room for a better condition one, namely 2141(ZC11).

Is ZC 11 the best conditioned ZC in storage ? Where can you get traction motors from ?

I think all of the traction motors have been canabalised for other locos.

As for the ZC in best condition, I would assume that one of the last ones in service would be in at least runnable condition (if they had traction motors)

Well all of the Zc stored aren't in the best condition, all require a motor rebuild, electrics overhaul. Also most if not all are missing some parts to keep the rest of the EE fleet alive.

Zc 2140 would be the best ZC motor wise, they all used a fair bit of oil. the radiators in it are full of cement, so it boils if used on anything for to long. 2141 has got goods radiators, cause i got the job of taking them all out, cleaning and putting them back in again a couple of years ago. But the motor is stuffed. 2144 & 2145 wouldn't pull a skin off a custard.

Electrically there not that bad, I mean they are as good as any other ZA/ZB thats running around. Traction motor wise PN has not got any spares as such, thats why 2118, 2115 ares sitting around.

They had to chuck out a lot of armatures for the traction motors cause they were stuffed.

The oringinal plan was to use 2141 as the East Tamar shunter and spare for Bell Bay. This was supposed to happen after the MKA's were in service, but this was forgotten when they had all the traction motor failures. At the time of putting 2141 in storage we were told not to take stuff off it, but that didn't last long. Pieces have been robbed off all of them now.

Thanks for the update on the stored ZC's alco866. Its a pity they were stored, they make great shunters, if it didn't have the high nose on the front.

alco 866, thats sad to hear that 2141 has now been canabalised, it wouldve been nice to be able to still catch a glimpse of a running ZC.

Heres some photos I took of ZC 32 on Saturday. I thougt it might make a good shot with all the doors open.

Wow ! got on here ; its always a battle.

Anyway ; What was the last ZC to be used on the cement train before the Arataki remote Dq took over. What was the last run of a ZC loco before they were put into storage ?

I think 2140 was the last used ZC on the cement train. Last run for a ZC however, could be 2145, used for a little while as the Western Junction shunter

Ok got the latest DRR newsletter, it looks like the 12 Cylinder motor will survive, and some other parts but the body will be cut up. DRR are planning for a going and could be used ZC loco, to be restored into operatable condition. The plan is if the new owner of the rail track has open access, DRR can, i suppose in there own right operate rail train, small freight, anything really. So who knows, DRR still might get 2141!!!
