The problem with the other ZC's in storage is when they do come up for sale they will want a hell of a lot of money for them. If PN sell them they will want way much more than what they are worth.

The price of scrap metal on the world market is also a big factor in what they would want for a ZC and the scrap metal price is very high at the moment.

I just wish I live in Tassie as I would have a go at doing 32 up as a static display. Alot of the parts removed from it would be somewhere ; even its builders plate. Paint and windows would make a big differance.
Then later on fit the air hose's ; air horns ; old blowen headlights would do ; 4 plastic number lights beside the headlights and its tail lights refitted and its starting to look like a real loco again.

If the other ZC's do come up for sale for big money then a museum may not a able to perchase one. Its very posible they would go for scrap.
But from the scrappies you should be able to source control gear ; westinghouse brake gear ; blower motors ; radiators ; cab fittings etc.
If some type of traction motor can be sourced then ZC 32 could then be rebuilt with all these parts.

What about the other two ZC's that were in storage with ZC 32 at the DRR.
Were they ZC 18 & 19 ? ? ? Did anyone get photos of them at the DRR.
If so I would love to see them.

Ha Ha ; I just about applied for that loco job advertised at Burnie about 18 odd months ago. The only thing that stopped me was I know that the Tassie rail system is not in a good way. No change in the job if I went there ; DQ's QR's & Track Warrant and looks like the money would have still been the same.

The Pilbara is looking good !

There isn't any other ZC stored at DRR, and they were 2142(ZC16) and 2143(ZC17), those have been sold, rebuilt with a lower nose and sold off and running in Africa.

Also, what you have said, the parts aren't around. When tasrail of old scrapped the ZCs, they scrapped the lot!.

All I can say is, easier said than done!

At the moment we're flat out just trying to keep our running locos going and maybe a steam loco without tackling what would be a substantial job to just cosmetically restore it.

If PN are pulling out, what makes you think they're going to wait around to get top dollar for some clapped out boxes of smeg? They're going to want to get rid of them quick smart, wouldn't you think?

You would Andrew, but if the rumor that Coote/South Spur buy PNT, they might restore the remaining stored ZCs and put them into service, who knows!
