Whilst flicking through some old pics of a steam trip to Bombala in 1984, I wondered what the status of the Michelago line is. Is there an intention to re-open the line from Royalla for tourist trains, or is the task just too hard?

Currently with the small number of participants willing to put in the effort the keep the line in operating condition and the difficulty we seem to have in getting supplies, little things like sleepers, it is very unlikely that the Royalla to Michelago section will be re-opened in the near future.
Some of the major tasks in this section are some very sad bridges, the repair of which is beyond the skill base of the current volunteer force.
The Society has had recommendations to replace 600 sleepers in the Queanbeyan to Royalla section, I guess that approximately the same amount would be needed for the other half of the line. We are currently at 448 since April 2005, and that has been a hard slog.
Although, it would be very nice to see it open again.
Regards, Neil

Thanks for the update - I'm with another TR and know what it is like.
Maybe the upcoming Federal election might bring some funding opportunities for the bridgework?
regards
Rob
