Have just returned from a six-week sojourn in Queensland., with much photography of QR and cane trains along the way.
While at Charleville, I was lucky enough to photograph the two branchline goods trains departing late in the afternoon. I was not able to discover in which order they left for Quilpie and Cunnamulla. Can anyone on this forum assist with those details, please?

Let me know what the date and locomotive numbers were, and it should be pretty easy to work out.

In order of departure 1725D and 1764D.

Ahh 1764D down at Charleville............locos do move around the state over the years........Back in October 1998 1764D was working through Mareeba on a Saturday afternoon with an empty syrup train bound for Arriga Junction. Old Bal was on 5C99 Savanahlander returning to Cairns. 5C99 crossed 1764D at Mareeba...........

On Tuesday 22 August 1725D left Charleville for Quilpie with 6Q82 (and returned from Quilpie to Charleville on Wednesday with 6S83), while 1764D left Charleville for Cunnamulla with 6V04 (and returned from Cunnamulle to Charleville on Wednesday with 6S85).
It was more of the same on Thursday/Friday, with 1725D working 6Q84/6725 to and from Quilpie, while 1764D covered 6V02/6S87 to and from Cunnamulla.
1764D was the prototype for the "maxi" cab rebuild program, and although it weighs a little more than the DOO-specification 1720s it's not as heavy as the other "maxi" rebuilds. That means 1764D can run between Westgate and Cunnamulla on track that the production "maxi" 1720s are not permitted to run on.

Still sorting through the multitude of stuff we brought back, and redoing the housework which the kids said they had done in our absence, but when I have time to transfer the photos to the main computer in the house, I will post the shots, and give details of the loadings, which are abit vague after six seeks on the road.

I did not think that trains ran to Cunnamula any more, so it was a surrprise to driving down the road to Cunnamulla and see a bright head light and then find that it is in deed a 1720 shunting wagons around way out here, the driver must have been thinking to himself this guy is nuts with the amout of time I spent taking photos, but I though this might be my one and only chance to get photos, so I took plenty of them.

That's the idea mate!
You never know quite when a marginal service will cease.
Actually, I never knew that trains shunted between Charleville and Cunnamulla. What sort of freight was sitting around the shed at Wyandra? Wool, or mainly stubbies?

Al the freight is locked in the, I take it they are QLX wagons, while getting some take away for tea in Cunnamulla we had a good talk with the shop owner, they buy their goods in Toowoomaba which is then trucked to I think Accia Ridge to be put in the QLX wagon for transport to Cunamulla. There is a shop in Wayandra plus surounding stations which I take it get their supplies sent by rail.

Seems to be a bit of to-ing and fro-ing there.
About a year ago someone at the Toowoomba Q-link depot told me that they truck the Qlink freight up the range to Toowoomba, load it into the QLX's/QLW's and then transfer it to Dirranbandi, Cunnamulla and Quilpie.
