Last night's late running freight into Darwin had a flow-on effect. 1DU4, with ALF21 and ALF18, was late departing Darwin due to the late running 6AD1, with FQ04 and ALF24. As a result of this was 1DU4 late crossing with 7AD1 at Newcastle Waters. 7AD1, with FQ03 and CLF6, arrived into Darwin at 10:40 today, 1 hr late. 2DA8, The Ghan, with NR74 and AN3, departed at 11:00. FQ04 and ALF24 were continued shunting 2DA2 after 2DA8 departed. 2DA2 generally follows 2DA8 by 40 minutes, so it should have departed at 11:40. I didn't have time to stay and see what it's true departure time was. FJ104 is currently the yard shunter.

Finally managed to upload Mondays pix, here they are. No point saying what I saw, Shacks took care of that for me  Laughing

Dejavu, wonder if anyone can guess where this was taken?......

FJ104 between a FPPY and a.........RKOY, looks like I was wrong about the code, too bad the R looked like an A on Sunday....

We've seen this before, just its now FQ04 and ALF24 on the head end.

FQ04 cab shot, or is that a roster shot?  Razz

Nah, this is a roster shot, tried to avoid the fence the best I could.

NR74, left late on Monday.

AMPZ car carrier.

NR74 head on sorta shot.

The Ghan, as written all over NR74 and AN3. Shortest Ghan Shacks has seen.

FQ04 and ALF24 passing under a wash rack and servicing shed, heading up to couple on to the outbound service.

FQ04 again.

First CLF shot, and I stuffed it up, oh well, atleast its a CLF  Very Happy  FQ03 and CLF6 by the way.

Heres our dynamic duo once again, bloody bush's, I would've stayed longer cept I was burnt like a sundried tomato....

Ahwell, another day and more fun at Berrimah, oh wait, the names been changed, guess its another day and more Darwin Observations...

Today I ventured down to Berrimah prior to going to work, I got some shots of 4DA8, The Ghan, with NR62 (NRC) and AN4 (AN). On my way to work I had to stop at the crossing and wait for the last 10 wagons of the ore train, 3UD3. It was about 40 minutes early. I am taking a guess that the loco's are still ALF's 18 and 21. I forgot all about the ore train. Silly me for not checking the timetable first.

NR109 and AN3 with ALF21 DA departed Darwin today. I have been told the ALF is required down south, someone else told me it is going to be dropped off in Katherine and return tonight. This could indicate that 7AD1 has failed there. On note was there was a freight and the ore in the yards and the only other loco's were ALF23 with the ore crew car and FJ105. No loco's off the freight to be seen.

7AD1 arrived Berrimah with FQ01, CLF6, FQ02, ALF21 with 50 vehicles for 4234 tonnes, 2318 metres tonight, 9 hours late as a result of many issues including locos. 2DA2 departed at 2150 and 3DA2 is scheduled for a 2300 Tuesday departure. AN5 will lead the Ghan (1AD8) into Berrimah while AN3 will lead 2DA8 into Alice Springs Tuesday morning.

Cheers

Went down to the yards yesterday, tried to get there before the ore was due in but it had already arrived atleast an hour or so before I got there so I missed out. Anyway on to the pix.

NR74 and AN2 on the Ghan.

NR74 cab shot.

ALF21 sitting idle, if this was a Thomas the Tank loco he'd be bored smegless.

Close up of ALF21.

Berrimah Freight Terminal west end.

Berrimah Freight Terminal east end with ALF21 and FJ104 and FQ02 at the shed.

Truck dolly, dont know why I took a photo of it, must've been the heat.....

The TOFC ramp, another randomn pic.

The Ghan heading out at 10am. This pic was taken from my bike as I was chasing it to the crossing.

Yeah, great photos Mitchell and thanks for sharing them as well. Howmany wagons does the ore train usually have?
  Shacks Ghanzel

Location: Sir Big Lens of the Distant Upper Hunter
The UD3 / DU4 trains are normally 2 ALF's, a crew car and 40 wagons.

Thanks for that Shacks. I knew that they used 2x ALF on that ore train because down here in Adelaide, you never see ALF's running around on grain trains anymore. They are now on UD3 / DU4  or AD1/DA2.

A bit of an adventure for me today. Rising at 3am and heading out to Eliziberth River to get some shots of 5UD3 arriving.
The image in my signature is the one i took at the river, just after the train crossed over the bribge. The loco's were ALF18 and ALF21.
After waiting for the 40 Ore wagons to pass I headed back to Berrimah. I saw the train at Palmerston and I kept going to the yards. I waited there for 10 minutes. Nothing showed up so I went for a drive. The train was early and the yaerds were not ready for them so they stoped out on the line. Eventually they made their way into the yards. The rain was starting to get heavy. again.

Normally they take the train all the way to the western end. So I went there to get a photo of the train in the yards. This time they stopped it half way. FJ105 was in the shunt road.

ALF18 was decked out for Christmas.

The crew left the train so I decided to head for home and some more sleep. As I passed the crossing I noticed something that did not look right. So I stopped and grabbed the big lens for a closer look. GM47 was sitting with ALF19 and ALF20 with a few crew cars.

Later in the day I picked up GDRMCo and we found GM47 had been pushed into the EDI Shed and had it's nose out in the rain.

ALF19 and ALF20 pulled out of the yards about 5 minutes later than scheduled. The train was the full 1800m in lenght.

We headed to Tivendale Rd for some more photo's.

We then headed to Eliziberth River. These next photo's were taken from the crossing where FQ04 had a comming together with a gravel truck in October. We noticed that many of the sleepers were still damaged and a 60km/h speed restriction was in place.

I topped the morning off with this shot.

ALF19/ALF20 left Alice Springs this morning for the run south at about 0615. All single stack containers & only saw one spare slot in the first 15 or so wagons on the train.

Another trip to Berrimah today.
AN5 was attached to NR103 and were stabled opposite the station building.

This is the first time I have seen NR103. I like it.
AN5 was in a good location to allow me to photograph the damage from the comming together with the truck a few weeks ago.

NR109 and some of the Ghan cars were located at East Arm Wharf, thanks to my bigma lens I gould get photo's of them. NR109 is sitting next to the Bulk Minerals loader that is almost finished.
[gallery=http://gallery.railpage.com.au/modules.php?set_albumName=The_Ghan&id=NR109_East_Arm_Wharf_080107_DSC_9696&name=gallery&include=view_photo.php][gallery=http://gallery.railpage.com.au/modules.php?set_albumName=The_Ghan&id=Ghan_East_Arm_Wharf_Pano&name=gallery&include=view_photo.php]

Other going on's at Berrimah saw 2DA2 with CLP6 and FQ01 having to be moved so a later running 7AD1 with FQ03 and ALF24 could enter the yards, as the arrival road was blocked with spare wagons. 2DA2 was shunted to the Service road from the Departures road via the East Arm access and runaround road.

Once this move was done 7AD1 entered the yards.
[gallery=http://gallery.railpage.com.au/modules.php?set_albumName=NT_Freight&id=FQ03_ALF24_7AD1_Berrimah_080107_DSC_9673&name=gallery&include=view_photo.php][gallery=http://gallery.railpage.com.au/modules.php?set_albumName=NT_Freight&id=ALF24_Berrimah_080107_DSC_9677&name=gallery&include=view_photo.php]
Once the loco's had cut off they proceded to the service road while 2DA2 departed at about 11am.
[gallery=http://gallery.railpage.com.au/modules.php?set_albumName=NT_Freight&id=FQ03_Berrimah_080107_DSC_9689&name=gallery&include=view_photo.php]

Other things of note at Berrimah today were FJ105 was stabled in the platform with 3 FPPY's.
[gallery=http://gallery.railpage.com.au/modules.php?set_albumName=NT_Freight&id=FJ104_Berrimah_080107_DSC_9661&name=gallery&include=view_photo.php][gallery=http://gallery.railpage.com.au/modules.php?set_albumName=NT_Freight&id=FJ104_Berrimah_080107_DSC_9626&name=gallery&include=view_photo.php][gallery=http://gallery.railpage.com.au/modules.php?set_albumName=NT_Freight&id=FJ104_Berrimah_080107_DSC_9623&name=gallery&include=view_photo.php]

FDAY02U was undergoing a bogie exchange, bit odd doing it in Darwin. Apparently it was due. you would think they would have waited till it got to Adelaide to do it.

FQ03 and ALF24, back in Darwin with 6AD1. They arrived here 6 days ago aswell.

Then 15 minutes later CLF6 and ALF21 went south with 1DU4, Muckety Ore.

Here is a shot I have been meaning to get since the line opened. I wanted to be more head on, but I was informed that a 4M croc was sighted on the bank earlier that day and it was belived to still be just under the bridge. Taken about a week ago.
