From the Yarra Ranges Local News for Feb/March 2019:

"Yarra Valley Trail
A draft lease has been received from VicTrack for section one from Lilydale to Yarra Glen and is being assessed.  Yarra Valley Railway has agreed to provide access for the trail to transition through a section of their leased area and for Council to develop shared visitor facilities that will service rail trail users and Yarra Valley Railway customers.  Council has been awarded $2.5m from the State Government's Growing Suburbs Fund for stage one.  Council will also receive $2.5m via the Eastern Metropolitan Partnership process."

Stage 1A (Beresford Rd, Lilydale to Macintyre Ln, Yering) is currently out to tender on the Council's website. Expected construction start late April 2019, to be completed some time in July 2019. That's the easy section, mind. Only a couple of small timber trestles and culverts that can be wholly replaced and only two road crossings.

Stage 1B (Macintyre Ln, Yering to Yarra Glen station) currently has an expected start date of early 2020 and a predicted completion date of October 2022.

Interestingly both sources of funding listed in your quote are coming from State level - no council money is being spent on construction aside from what they've spent on consultants for the master planning.

I guess that means shared facilities such as toilets, possibly bike storage, in the Yarra Glen station area.

Yarra Glen Station toilets will become public toilets. I haven't heard any mention of other extra shared facilities to be built at this stage.

I mentioned bike storage, because it would make a good day out to put your bike on the train to Lilydale, then ride to Yarra Glen, then put your bike somewhere safe and take the YVTR to Healesville and return, or perhaps go on a winery tour from Yarra Glen, before riding back to Lilydale.

Happened to spend the weekend in the yarra Velley and visited Healesville. Not much happening there.  driving along the track to Yarra Glen a lot of it has been lifted so any plans for a service between Healesville and Yarra Glen seem a long way off.

Plenty has been going on at the YVR. Don't believe me? Read the Railway's blog which was launched recently: http://www.yvr.org.au/blog/

Great to find another THR blog, they are a great way for heritage groups to communicate what is going on to members, enthusiasts and the public alike.

It's been a big couple of past weeks at the Yarra Valley Railway, with 7 items of rollingstock having arrived at Healesville from the former South Gippsland Railway in Korumburra, including Y135 and Super DERM RM55. Press coverage of the latter's arrival can be found in the local paper:

Apart from the DERM and the Y, what other rolling stock did YVR obtain from Korumburra?
