wouldn't a railway.. or any transport company gain positive PR if they provide reliable, efficient and as for this case, safe service to the customers (commuters)

Or unless your telling me a train runs when it's colourful, bright and clean..

The train has to be clean inside and out, the toilets have to be clean and the windows have to be clean. You can apologise for everything else. That's the facts of life when you are dealing with the fickle public.

OK I am exaggerating here, but you cannot underestimate the importance of appearances.

"Nexas" Hmm... Did you request permission from "Siemens™ AG"  or "Siemens™  AUS" to use the term 'Nexas.' Tsk, tsk. The operator may have gone but the contract still remains the same. You'd just hope it isn't a trademark or a product name now would you.[/size]
"The Met"

OMG OMG OMG!!! "The Met" still appears on some tram and bus stop signs.... that means you can't use that as your board name! Rolling EyesRolling EyesRolling Eyes

Who is responsible for proposing that VLine fleet should be painted the same abominable colours as the Not Very Fast Train?  Why were they painted like this anyway? The mind simply rebels.  It is not a suitable colour scheme for a railway and certainly not as a corporate image.  What sort of message do the colours green and purple project when applied to machinery?  Short-sightedness, colour blindness and a total lack of empathy with the function of the industry!  Or might this be the misguided interference of the recently appointed Minister for Public Transport?   Evil or Very Mad

The new livery is desperately needed - went past SSS tonight and alot of the fleet had the colours fading. It was just a bad PR image.
"MelbourneCity"

I think colours on a train is the least of the PR woes for V/line.. I mean if it was.. wouldn't the fancy eye catching Ozride Pink will still be upon us and kicking the goals of every commuter's heart?!

I mean is it me but wouldn't a railway.. or any transport company gain positive PR if they provide reliable, efficient and as for this case, safe service to the customers (commuters)

Or unless your telling me a train runs when it's colourful, bright and clean..

which reminds me a episode of Thomas of the Tank engine, where James gets a brand new coat on the livery, and ends up having a fear of rain and dirt, obviously didn't want to have this brand spanking new livery runied and refuses to move out under the bridge.. oh man can you imagine the amount of "delay and confusion!"

I'm not saying it's VLP's #1 priority, but from the point of view of a user, or more importantly, a potential user, it creates the impression of a tardy operation when you have messy trains around.
It's not going to create a positive impression in their mind.

The plant at Geelong has a 'recycled water in use' sign on it but the water still has to come from somewhere to start with. Last time I checked Geelong's storages was down to 15%, and that is with about half to the town running off bore water... Sad

Yes, for the record, FSH25 was transferred to Newport Workshops yesterday (Thursday 19/4) afternoon behind N454+P13 for its scheduled G exam/lift/overhaul/repaint.

VN18 is finally in for repaint and repairs at Newport, about time it's done. Very Happy

It was rusting quiet a bit and also had alot of water bubbles.

Why adopt a 1970s colour combination?  Then again why do we continually change station signage and rolling stock colours?  A marketing attempt to suggest positive change.

If I had a say, I would return to the yellow and gold.  Classical combinations have a chance of survival.  Purple and green will go the same way as orange and people will quickly loose interest in it.  PN did the right thing with its livery.

Having said all that the new station signage is the best ever (and we have had plenty of examples) and repainted will be better than faded and rusted coaches

The rail industry today has such dedicated employees such as "Brand Managers' who specialise in the feild of "customer perception"  and "Corporate Image" to the average punter, their objective is simple train arrives on time is clean and is safe to travel on, but spin doctors who make a living off providing a total travel experience and enhancing your journey with attractive loking trains totally refereshed in a new livery think differerently.

Thus another new color scheme, (it will only take around 5  years or so years to repaint the whole fleet, and it will not become any more reliable.)

Thousands apon thousands of key stakeholders where surveyed by consultants to guage their perception to the new fresh envigorated livery, and the results where analised by a team of market researchers, then given to more consultants to guage the public perception, then the new scheme was decided apon, after aprroval of the board, the senior management team, government representatives, and presto a new scheme is borne....

Have any sightings of repainted Sprinters been reported?

I saw a Sprinter today which looked like it had fresh looking paint including stripes (down the side) which I don't recall seeing before. However, the colours seemed close to the existing Sprinter colours.

I didn't get any car numbers. I was shuffling around to see whether I could find a camera.

Hmmmmmm interesting.
The first sprinter was supposed to be shopped on April 10th but I don't think this was the case. There is roughly a 4-5 week turn around on them being completed so it is possible you saw one but unlikely..... Does anyone know if the first one has been shopped yet? If so any ideas when? I would think that there should be a car or 2 of FH25 thats either still in the painting booth or has been repainted. Does anyone know any more?
  MelbourneCity Chief Commissioner

Aren't they also getting interior refurbishments though?
That will take longer.

There would be a press launch when a unit is unveiled.

Its possible the unit seen had recently been washed.

VN 18, that's the VN set that has gone into EDI Spewport for it's long overdue Overhaul after 9yrs of not having one done in recent times, correct...

I decided I'd go for a day in the city today, so I took 8220 05:45 Up WBl - Melb. SCS Pass Service, which was hauled by N454 & consisted of carriage set: N3, now that's what surprised me the most when I aarived at the station this morning was to find a 3-Car-N Set in place of the Normal VN set... I knew automatically this was going to make for an interesting trip compasity wise, with only 206 seats instead of the normal 366 seats... a total of 160 seats was now no longer available!

The train wasn't too full on leaving WBL, First class had betwn 15-20 passengers in total, this number slowly increased, on leaving Geelong the BRN & BN were totally full, this Lara Passengers were forced to have to seek seats in the ACN... One would think that VLP could have at least rostered a FN set for this service, at least that would have given an increase of 72 seats from the standard 206 seats in a N set to 278 seats in an FN set... this helped to reduce the over crowding some what...

The Rtn trip: 8243 18:28 Dwn Melb. SCS - WBL Pass Service, was not with out it's problems ethior, it was back to it's usual 5 car consist again through thank goodness... in the form of a FN Set+BTN or BCZ/ACZ... as we were passing through Aircraft/Laverton the HEP dropped at least twice in a 5 min time space & hte emergency lighting engaged & end inter-connecting doors plus saloon sliding doors reverted back to their default open position when the car has no power source, the power flicted back on then back off again then on again, a stop was made at W'bee to check the HEP genset in the Loco & the HEP connections betwn the N Class & the Car Set... all appeared to go fine after this was checked out...

Dalts, aside from the line at the top about VN18, the rest of your message is identical to that posted in another thread, and it has absolutely nothing to do with this threads topic.

7007 which is at Newport ex engine fire damage should be the first unit to be refurbished and repainted, & was joined by 7006 yesterday, with structural damage, so 7006 will probably be another unit refurbished.

VN 18 will be  allegedly be repainted, have stage 3 HEP conversion, ie Dual Power, which should see all 5 cars in the consist converted to run off the AGS system although may not extend to the fifth car, will be a case of wait & see.

Car set  N18 was the first set to be fitted with VM aircooled DA units under the BRN & BN car only, they may have to refit a motor under the ACN, to provide extra power, to power all 5 cars, or even 4.
Some N sets now have VM engines under the BRN & BN and an old one under the ACN, the ideal situation would see all cars powered off AGS ex the three N cars, and this also provides battery charging from the DA direct to the reserve batterys which supply emergency lighting, tail lights & power to auto door operation, when the cars are not operating off HEP or AGS.

It will also be fitted with the new power door configuration.

As for internal refurnishment, I believe that It will remain the same internally, and the next set VN 12  or 17 will be the first internal refurbishment.

VN18 also allegedly required a full bogie overhaul as it was well overdue and may have had badly worn wheels.

In response to Dalts off topic report on the running of 8220 as three cars,  this was due to the 1828 Down Warrnambool being red carded on Tuesday night. (VN17).

The two cars being converted to BZN (ACZ252 & BZ 267) will also be fitted with power doors and could also have new upholstery in the new color fabric. Both cars are not due out for some time though.
