Ok, the +20 cars/passengers can't alight and now the steam crane are freaking me out Cool .

Don't know if the clues fit so just a guess -

Woodside (for the army trains)?

Don't forget the Wooden Coal Stage

Hence 'Woodside' as my answer Laughing

I'm wondering how many 'passengers' actually paid for their own tickets to travel on these trains or was it a group booking Cool

Now, I think I've been a bit tricky. The wooden coal stage is still standing, however from what I can gather there was also at one stage a larger several thousand tonne stage - one assumes that the wooden one did not have capacity. This is what the steam crane would have been for. And from all photos that I've seen, it is only the wooden stage that still stands today.

Lusty - good thinking with the army trains. There are also barracks still standing at this place too, albeit not army barracks Wink

Another obvious hint: This station was classified as a "Loco Servicing" station.

The reason passengers couldn't alight if the train was 20 or more cars long, was that the train would stretch over a bridge while stopped being serviced.

Nor is it Hamley Bridge.

This location would have seen only 3 class of diesel working through.
