Another third party report of the Flexity venturing out on route 59 around 05:00 a few mornings ago.

So has anybody got a Photo of one of our trams in Mebourne yet? I would love to see it
"Tom"
Sorry, no photos from me. It's venturing out at very unsociable hours!

  Halo Chief Train Controller

Does this mean this flexi has Metcard validators?

It must be destined for SA eventually, as it has SA livery

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present the first pics of Flexi 111 out and about in Melbourne! Yay!

"Halo"

It most likely will have them fitted on a temporary basis, in the same way as the Lisbon Combino Plus has had validators and vending machines fitted.

For for the n00bness of the question, but when, if ever was the last time Melbourne had 2 "Foreign" Trams running around the system?

I think a while ago, (quite a while) we had a Tram from Italy? Milan; doing the city circle...

There was also another French tram a while ago (another quite a while ago) on demonstration i think...

Not both at the same time, but i recall reading it somewhere.

The only one that comes to mind in recent times is the Eurotram from Bombradier.

Apart from that- I really have no idea.

** Spotted it in the media **

It was seen in the background of a news report on tonights Ch7 news in Melbourne.

The report was about the court trail of that under-world person, and I could catch the distinctive yellow stripe of Trans Adelaide move towards the left of the screen.

Did anyone see that?

No, I didn't see it, but the tram did go on an excursion past the courts on William Street today (among other places).

Door positioning would be interesting, particularly with the seats and step to deal with.  Anyone in Adelaide able to comment on how it performs filled up very tight?
"Tremere"

It performs quite well, TransAdelaide ran a test trip with a crush load when 101 arrived and did tests on our 1 noticable grade (soon to be 2) on the railway overpass and it passed quite well. It can get a bit stuffy inside under heavy load although I believe that issue has been rectified. Ride wise it seems it can be a bit rough on the street sections but over here that isn't much of an issue

Are there plans for another grade separation? I guess the one referred to is the Goodwood flyover but what is the second? Or is there a noticeable grade on the new extension into the city.

Cheers,

It appears through the window of the court (at left of screen) at 1:18 and continues until the shot ends at around 1:27.

Enjoy the first video of a Flexity in Melbourne! Wink

Any truth to the rumor, that the Flexi was put onto a truck for a journey to Adelaide?

I guess I will have no choice but to go to Adelaide in order to try it out.

A ramp truck was noted in Victoria Square at 10:45am and the truck left Preston Works last night.

anyone seen this desto in Adelaide? Very nice of TransAdelaide, but what about the passengers in Adelaide? Aren't we welcome aboard?
  Halo Chief Train Controller

Same as the internal screens used to read "Line 1" between stops, when no stop was being displayed. It now just goes blank, instead of reading "Transadelaide" or perhaps "Glenelg Tram" or "City Tram".

I also noted that they are not using Bold text on the inside displays like all the melbourne trams and trains. The screens are strangly exactly the same size, yet the text is harder to read as it's in a thinner font, with no bold. The screens can scroll I'm sure, why not bold all the stop info, and actually print "The Next stop is; Stop 4 Greenhill Road". So people who get on don't think they are on the "South Road" Tram, or perhaps the "Glandore" tram!

Also while i'm being a pain, loose the "This tram is terminating, all passengers please vacate this tram" announcement, aside from the fact it sounds rude (This tram is terminating, we have your money, now get the heck off!=) Most trips the tram is NOT terminating, and is returning to it's origin. Tourists who just want a ride to glenelg and back may actually get off in confusion and wait for the next tram!

Flexity 111 was safely on track at 2:12am.

Interesting to note that the track brake which had been broken off in Melbourne was laying on the floor inside the tram.

The tram was still fitted with temporary cabling for instrumentation which was used to measure stresses on the vehicle in Melbourne where it had covered 80-90% of the Network during approximately 400k's of running.

About the only difference in this delivery was the requirement to use a big ute to tow the tram towards the ramp for a short period until it was able to roll under the urge of gravity.

The first shot is when 111 is almost clear of the ramps.

Second shot has a rarely seen Desto message.
