Still no word, has anyone else heard anything lately?

Rang QR HR on Wednesday, and was told 2nd phase testing is still on hold until AT LEAST September. I have been calling them every two weeks and have been getting the " You should hear something soon, if not call back" spiel.

Whats all the talk about ARG, read back through a few pages of posts and did not get any answers.

Just out of curiosity Leese, are you a NQ Cowboys fan?

Hey Cowgirl

Nope, I don't follow footy at all! Why do you ask?

So frustrating this waiting game, though hubby (who is the applicant) just cruises through and figures he'll hear from them when they're ready. I've just accepted a major promotion with my work that requires a commitment of at least 12 months, so I figure if the lord and master gets the job, seeing as I wouldn't be following until training was over anyway, I'm pretty safe for a fair while yet!

Starting to think we'll be pretty safe to start making some plans for Christmas! Instead of expecting to be apart for the holidays!

I reckon, that we will not get a look at starting until at least January.

We wanted to book holidays, but have put it off and off and off. ( we wanted to go oversea's). Could have gone, come back and written a book about the trip already.. lol

I am the applicant in our family, and my husband is the blaise' one, he just took a permanent job here, cause we reckon we will be here for a least another 6 months.

Ps. I asked about the Cowboys, because there is a Leese on the Cowboys chat page.

Hi everybody,
Thanks for info Nic, sounds OK to me if I eventually end up doing something along similar lines as well.
I've met a few drivers locally and they have been encouraging and helpful so I look forward to starting at Bluff.
I hope to be booked in at the good old Bluff palms on Sunday the 24th so it's not long till the start now.
Cowgirl,
As for ARG, Bye_Q_Health has a good explanation on p65, it has to do with QR's Queensland operations being split into five separate companies.
QR Coal
QR Regional Freight
QR Services
QR Network
QR Passenger

Regards,
Paul

No tutor for me as yet (I have one, but he still has his current trainee with him) I have travelled 3rd man with them a couple of times.

I have travelled as DA with more than a dozen different drivers, and enjoyed each trip immensely. The wealth of knowledge is really amazing. And it is not time wasted. These guys have all that knowledge to pass on.

Cheers

I know this is left of field....but an employment question all the same.

How does one become a train controller? I know its not all internal cause they recruit outside of QR.

QR for the first time recruited externally in 2007 for Trainee Train Controllers. There were something like 25 externals and ten internals in that intake.

QR Network now runs all the control centres including Mayne. Talk is that the next school will be 2008- however this will depend on how the rstructure moves along. They plan to merge Mayne control centre with the Other Brisbane based centre in due course so now doubt they will eliminate some jobs.

Forgive those who do not travel by train for they will not inherit the earth!

Another dozen or so trainees did their induction at Bluff this morning. No doubt, in Rocky now. I am led to believe another intake starts next Monday. And 2 classes already doing stage 1 at the moment, I think.

It was like Queens St outside the station this morning.

And yet we still play the waiting game,

As Mt Isa, Cloncurry and Hughenden were 3 of the 4 that were on the table for us what happens now. ARG takes over running the western line, and we still wait.......

Any one got any updates on the ARG saga

There's a good chance that the glass is near full for the time being.

Hi,

I applied for the Sydney trainee suburban train driver job last month, so far I've passed all the tests & now I'm up to the criminal background check (no worries here) & medical testing.

The required forms have been faxed through & now I'm waiting for a call to book in my medical. Is there anything I should know beforehand & am I pretty much guaranteed the job after I pass it?

Thanks!

Well I rang QR today to ask if there had been any updates and the reply was....

It is still under restructure, we have not had any word of when it will be starting again ( progress of trainee drivers waiting on medicals etc) and you will be contacted when we get an update.

Wouldn't it be nice if they contacted us to let us know it was on hold. any other business who ran thier HR department like this would earmarked as timewasters and people would stop applying.

Well I am willing to wait, but I imagine a lot of applicants are not. and that is why there is a driver shortage. People find other good paying jobs and then the QR lot have to re-advertise and run the whole process again.

Yeah I got the same response on Monday CG. It's frustrating especially after being told that I had passed the first stage and that the next round of testing would be in 2-3 weeks, that was back on the 4th of April. I have also knocked back offers of other (temporary high paying) jobs. But like you I am prepared to wait for this job. I just hope they don't lapse past the twelve month limit on our psych tests.(April next year).

Oh well as they say,'Good things happen to those who wait',................and wait....................................................and wait..........................................................................
