Yes I seen that as well, however you will find it is only for current internal QR employees and not for external applicants......

Just had a look at the QR website and it is for QR Employees Only. 10 Positions are for women only.

I think HR has outdone themselves this time. The notice says external as well yet the QR careers website says internal only.

Why are ten positions, for women only?
Is QR trying to get taken to court, by the first man, to be refused a job, because it's been given to a lower qualified woman, (or worse, after a crash, when people find out that the female driver, got the job, over better qualified men)?

Hey Chorlton maybe you should keep your opinions to yourself. I know a couple female drivers and they are quite capable of driving trains and have been doing so for a number of years now.
Have a look at the mining industry they employ as many as women as they can to operate their heavy machinery.
So maybe you should just go and crawl back into that little narrow minded world of yours. Aint jealously just a drag

Both adds appeared in the Gladstone paper last week can't say I agree with a quota of women though, affirmative action or not why not have one add and keep the number of women you want to employ to yourself. I think it is more of a PR exercise than a direct appeal to women to apply.
When my employer first started to actively recruit women in a heavy industry situation many of the applicants were unsuited to the work and many of them were back in the workforce after raising a family and used to being the boss at home.
The pressure was on the managers and supervisors to make it work no matter what, personality clashes and the expectation that the blokes would do the heavy work for them soon created friction. I even found myself threatening my direct boss and his supervisor with legal action over allegations made by a female coworker that were beyond the absurd.
Things soon sorted themselves out and the nature of the work soon weeded out the ones along for the ride both male and female. That said I have also trained about a half a dozen women in crane operation, forklifts, heavy vehicle operation and casting techniques and am proud of the fact they are safe and work consistently well. Although it may take them a little longer to pick some skills up I find they listen more and do not race ahead of themselves like most blokes do and get into all sorts of trouble.
A workmate applied for the last jobs on offer and after knocking back several offers, Cloncurry, Hughenden, Mt Isa and I think Sarina he took one several months ago at Bluff. Because it was closer to Gladstone and he did not want to move his family, I asked him why he applied and he said to make more money for a better family life. ( Like many blokes here he feels the need to keep up with the neighbors with most of the pressure coming from the wife)
He spent the first three months training out of Gladstone and now spends his time living in a caravan at Bluff and a unit he rents here because once he got the better paying job she kicked him out (higher wage, higher child support) not the first bloke I know that this has happened to here and not the last.
I think employing women in the operations area will only improve the culture of the workplace.

It's REVERSE DISCRIMINATION...................two wrongs don't make a right, and it seems as though there are some femanazi types out there that are trying to even the score for what happened 30 years ago!
SHAME ON QR, whatever happened to merit based recruitment and selection?
There's nothing from stopping woman from applying for and doing the job as it stands now, because there are woman doing the job.
I personally don't have a problem with woman doing any job, but I believe everyone no matter who you are should be treated equally.
This is very dangerous territory that QR is heading towards, as all it will do is segregate the workforce.
It will also give the perception that they are placing token people into a responsible job, therefore jepodising safety.
I believe men should start standing up for themselves, as we are now the victims of discrimination.
QR is a government owned corporation, so complain bitterly to your local MP, before this rot sets in.

My point - thanks for your support - gsxxxr_750 should reread my post, (without the political slant) - I have no problems with women drivers, just less qualified women, (or men, for that matter), getting a job, over someone, who can do it better - appoint on merit not politics!!!
