Ahoy!

Well, here's the current version of my map of Sydney's rail network with all of the disused passenger lines included. This map is 100% my own work and apart from obvious reference material, does not directly copy anything from the original CityRail map.

My aim is for the map to ultimately be poster-sized and printable, and it'll have a nice picture behind it to make it similar to the historical railways map I have of Melbourne, already hanging on my wall.

The original thread for my first map was deleted, as I requested, but it did contain some corrections and pointers for how my second map could be improved, so whoever posted those, please correct me again and I'll fix whatever's not right on the new map!

NOTE: I'm 100% certain that there are huge errors in the Newcastle area, and I am totally and completely aware that I'm missing several dead stations near Lithgow, they'll be added in as soon as I can find a decent source for their opening/closing dates and whatnot.

All critique and criticism is appreciated!

I just noticed the "Sydnenham" typo in the Bankstown Line box. Neutral

Just a correction, Olympic Park Station was opened in early (March?) 1998, not in 2000 Smile

Hmmm... Im quite sure Fairfield was not opened in 1927, but at a similar date to Liverpool and Granville. If I recall, when Granville to Liverpool was built, Fairfield was created as a midpoint.

Werai is missing.
Menangle Park Racecourse is on the wrong side.

You might like to include Picton - Mittagong Loop Line seeing as you've included Toronto.

Otherwise looks good.

Just had a thought, what about Dog Trap? Or was that only ever a signal box? Confused

Bang Head Knew there was something I missed. On that note, the ESR also runs via Town Hall.

Corrections made!

I was only off by about 70 years on Fairfield, there. Dunno how that happened. Very Happy

Werai added, racecourse flipped over!

I'll upload a new version when I've made enough changes to warrant it!

Another minor problem, the line was already electrified through Macarthur when the station was opened as the electrification went to Glenlee originally. Wink

With Hunter stations, Belford and Allandale didn't close in the 70's, they closed a year or two ago!

Hello,

I'm new here. Have been lurking for a bit. Anyway, I love your map, however, the Airport line does not stop at Redfern and the South Line does not stop at Macdonaldtown.

Also, it seldom stops at Croydon, Burwood and Homebush but officially, it does.

I'm curious and confused. Macarthur is shown on the official CityRail map as being an extension of the East Hills (green) line. Should it not actually be part of the South Line (pale blue), and then the Main South Line (grey with pale blue dots)? This has confused me for some time. Particularly when the only time I've travelled up that line has been on the XPT which goes via the Inner West (orange) line anyway!

I know Macarthur-via-Granville trains are quite common.

Help!

I'm having a hard time drawing the line between following the mapping conventions of a commuter map, and following the actual layout of the lines. A commuter map shows only the information that's relevant to a commuter; where you get on, where you get off, which line goes where. There are a lot of liberties taken, lines omitted, stations marked on the wrong lines, etc. It serves its purpose, though. I'm trying to stick to CityRail's standard mapping for the main, current lines, and more accurate mapping for the disused lines. Sound fair?
