I've been experimenting with HDR images, and went out to take some photos to try out. Here's a rattler in its final resting place as part of someone's home in Lightning Ridge:

The tree turned out blurry because it was blowing a gale. Oh, well.

Here's another HDR from today, albeit not train-related. It's the Lightning Ridge Historical Society "building":

Enjoy.

Umm, from zooming in on the original photo, it's C7XXX, which doesn't help a whole lot. I'll examine it next time I'm out that way.

I'm vaguely planning to photograph some of the other rail relics that are hiding in the bushes around here. Could be interesting.

Awesome photos Datazoid. The first one is really something special. It has the qualities of a painting, while still being a photo at the same time.

Thats amazing!

That HDR imaging would be great for taking photos under station awnings. Its always so annoying when the platform under the awning is black and the outside is perfect, or the outside is overexposed and the platform is perfect. Looks like HDR enables you to balance up even exposure of the two areas.

Give Photomatix a try - there is a free version of it about:
http://www.hdrsoft.com/

The 'Highlights and Shadows' option takes two exposures and put them together, just as you mentioned. It's good for shots at night so you can see both the sky and the train. Smile
