SW6 885 was on the Mack, and SW6 936 was on the Scania.

I wonder if they are going to put any numbers on the trams. They should, but if they were going to I guess they'd have done it already. Are the numbers visible on the frames or anywhere else? I had a quick look..

Will they get burnt down or vandalized like the other ones

They have been painted with anti graffiti paint

They do look good, I'll have to go up and have a look tomorrow morning.
I fear they may also be burnt in the future. Sad

In a nearby street there were two burnt out cars which sat where they were torched for almost a week.

"locomotive"

And what might that mean exactly? So it's some kind of force-field that will prevent other paint from touching it?

It will get vandalised, there is no doubt about that. At least someone will have a job of painting them over and over again.

On another note, what dimensions are the destos on them? ie length X hight?

If it's like the anti-graffiti paint on X'traps, it means that spray enamel (paint) wont stick to it and can be washed off with plain water.
  MelbourneCity Chief Commissioner

But will they be able to wash the graffiti away, considering water restrictions?

It doesn't take much water.

Went out there today with Trolleybusracer. They look pretty good, already one of them is littered with VB rubbish, some still have stickers in them which should all be peeled off in no time. But other than that they look ok.

One slight problem is they lack a rout number thing on the roof, the roof is covered in canvas as well as the desto and the roof is painted a rusty orange colour, probably to prevent them from rotting. I would have coated them in asbestos to prevent them from being torched.

They also lack yellow tripes, fleet numbers etc, which if you look carefully you can see where the yellow stripes were, along with a MTA logo on the one furthest to the roadside. Also it's interesting they striped the cab with everything except the brake.

I think the concrete blocks they put them on look a bit unsightly and could have opted for something else, as well the blocks are too high unless they plan to build somekind of step to get into them, and will they be wheelchair accesible?

Also what they did with the lights looks a bit dodgy too, but i know what else they could have done.

Plus, why only 2? why cant they have a few more of them, but i guess 2 are better than 1.

I think they have replicated the features of the old trams, which only had these as well and because the brake wheel resembles a steering wheel that the kiddies can play with.

They had to, its 'heritage' thing at Wattle park, it has been since the parks creation. When they removed the old bodies, they did it claiming they would be replaced.

Also, more would be an issue, as it must cost PV a bit to look after them, paint and repairs wise. The two are a bit of a liability as they are.

I went for a look today, good to have them back.
I hope they last

IS IT a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a heritage tram in the skies above Wattle Park.

Both trams were ex Preston Workshops "Ready Reserve" fleet.

Good to know Parks Vic are upholding the heritage of Wattle Park - it would be so easy to just say "Put in some bog-standard play equipment, the kids will be safer". Rolling Eyes

And of course, the more trams come out of storage and do something useful for the people of Victoria, the better!

Should we count down the days until theyre vandalised /graffitied or even torched?? I think its stupid to put them in the park nowadays too many ratbags brought up by junkies/ dole bludgers.

The wooden spoon goes to whoever decided to replace the last one's that were vandalised... its like giving free drugs to junkies.... what a waste of 2 perfectly good trams.

Oh and what's next? that stupid Robyn woman will complain that she cant get her wheelchair onto the tram...!

Why only 2?

Two tram bodies have been placed for recreation in Wattle Park for many years; these are the third generation since the first two eventually rotted out, the second pair were burned (one) and rotted (both), and IIRC there was an early replacement of one of the original pair as well.

Wattle Park has strong connections with the tramways and is still the home of the Melbourne Tramways Band summer concerts.

Good to see initiative and common sense in use in restoring a very popular attraction in the Park; sadly it isn't possible to police the tram bodies 24 / 7 to prevent litterring and occasional abuse.
  MelbourneCity Chief Commissioner

The police have increased their patrols of the park at night, but they don't have the resources to be there all the time.

Parks Victoria are never there, budget cuts mean they all just congregate at their regional HQ at Jells Park. As a result much of Wattle Park is suffering from poor maitenance.
