As I like to get out on a Wed after work (depending on when I finish) and on a Saturday to snap the Indian Pacific, I figured it might be a good idea to start a thread on the train itself - any interesting combos and whatnot would be nice to know, so as to plan accordingly.

On the other hand, it'd be nice to pass on info to those living west of here about whats coming their way from Sydney.

Todays IP was brought into Sydney by NR28 (IP) and taken out by NR27 (IP).

Seems no more DL's until the next holidays?

I'm well aware of that.

This thread is for posting of The Indian Pacific Consist. Whats hauling it, if there is anything interesting about it, etc.

NR27 continues to Perth with 1AP8
The consist was larger than usual (well the past couple of months anyway)
It neatly filled Platform 1 at Keswick, NR27 and the lead power van just off the platform, with the rear power van at the southern ramp and 2 motorails across the yard access road.
{this is the usual size of the sunday Ghan, which interestingly was a short set today}

Cheers,
Tony
On the road again, it's my yearly "paid holiday" time again! Very Happy

Thanks, thats the kind of info I was hoping to see in this thread. Not just the locos, but the consist itself, when it's unusually long, etc.

I didn't pay much attention to the length when it was at Central, as it was using platform one, I assumed it was 'normal' size (last month or so we've had double-length with NR/DL bringing it in and taking it out, and it's been in platforms two and three at Central).

Cheers Pressman Smile

NR15 took the Indian Pacific out of Central today, bound for Adelaide. I believe the consist also had the "Sir John Forrest" Car on it Smile.

As I started the thread, thought it only fair that I'd help keep the folks in the west updated on whats coming their way Smile.

Also, a photo.

NR15 Croydon

Anyone know whats coming our way on Saturday yet? I'll likely be chasing the 35 and the 38 up and down the Illawarra (at least, as far as Hurstville), so I don't know if I'll be at Central at any point.

It's a customised private car that can be hired by someone or some people, and attached to the train for the trip. Sounds expensive, but it'd be the be all and end all of train travel!

They (GSR) have a pdf on their website which may be of interesting reading too:

Direct Link to the PDF

The "Sir John Forrest" car is one of 4 special purpose carriages GSR has available for hire (hire as being attached to either the Ghan, the IP or the Overland services)
It is a converted Bluebird railcar trailer, and is set up for a small conference facility.
There is info available on GSR's website http://www.gsr.com.au
follow the links and you'll find it (sorry the site isn't playing nice for me just now otherwise I could give a more direct link)

NR25 was on 1PA8 it then failed enroute to adelaide and was replaced by NR1 off 1PS6 NR1/NR53/NR119 and then 1PS6 was NR53/NR119 and NR1/NR25(D/A) on 1PA8 arrived in adelaide and NR1 took it East to NSW on tuesday and then later on that night NR25 worked 3AB6 with NR22 and then gave more problems with brakes etc... and sat at MBJ for about 7 or 8 hours before 3XW4 could get to it with all the comotion in the hills yesterday it then arrived in melbourne as NR24 ex 3XW4/NR25/NR22 at about 1930 i have been told.

Cheers , Very Happy
