And a new computer by the looks of it...
I rekon you would need a beast to run that on full everything.
Awesome stuff that.

WOW. *sound of jaw dropping on to desk*
Well, I guess the missus is getting my old AMD x2 PC, and I'm going to SLI 8800GTXs and a Quad core QX6700!
That looks truly amazing. And there's actually people and engineers in it now... The cab shots are off the chain, too, you get a real sense of depth with them now.
Wow.

Well, I have used MSTS once in five years, and its still sitting in the drawer. While these screenies look realistic, I'd be like wolfpac and wondering what cpu and memory demands and video card requirements are. Graphics like that (noting that these are stills) can render even the fastest machine to its knees.
OK, the screenies look neat. What is the ask for a machine to run this?
And, what are the keyboard controls?
If they are the same, then I would not be rushing out to buy it.

Press Release kit at http://www.atlanteans.net/Train_Simulator_2_press_kit.zip.
(43MB)
EDIT: Download this - it has ALL the JPG screenshots in 1280x960 pixel JPGS, plus 2x WMV video files, one showing the trackwork, the other showing some of the "assets".
A quote from http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/08/23/leipzig-game-convention-news.aspx:
"I had a chance to sit down with one of the makers of Train Simulator 2 today at a one on one meeting at Games Convention. The game is still a while away from release and actual gameplay therefor couldn't be shown. Yet what the team is planning for the second version is simple mind-blowing, essentially it's Flight Sim on tracks - the whole world is in there, every single track-route that they get their hands on will be in the game. Now you don't have a more mission based gameplay as in the first installment but you can go pretty much seemlessly throughout the world. Of course the good stuff from Flight Sim will also be in there: multiplayer, mission-type activies, real time weather, extensive community and mod support. I'm excited to what's to come..."
(... thanks to Stuart Williamson for pointing out this URL and quote).
The Fact Sheet from the Press Kit above (it's originally in .DOCX format - you may need to download MS' FileConverter.exe from http://tinyurl.com/y5a879 if you're not running Office 2007).

Don't like the "Format for Vista Operating Systems" bit.........
Also from Mike Simpson on UKTS:
| Quote: | I note from the Press Kit that MSTS-II will be used via the Games for Windows Live! site - see http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-US/Live/Pages/AboutLive.aspx
This probably means it will be Vista only, or at least mean that without Vista you will not get a lot of the options. |

I think I spent all my surprised excitement when I saw the first release of screenshots, the second freight carraige looks the best. Judging from the screenshots overall, two things;
1. It looks like we could get zoom options, which would be fun to play with.
2. No shadows there? I was having fun with them in the current MSTS recently.

The shots dwarf tend to KRS a bit, but bit more detail regarding the "world" wouldn't kill anybody. I doubt that MS will get the track layouts done with a level of accuracy which is satisfactory to route designers
In the database I've noticed the line to Leigh Creek, and Crystal Brook/Perth/Broken Hill lines are there, and the recently built Darwin mainline too but the CAR is not included so it is pretty obvious it is set in very recent times.

Looks fantastic, and the route creation process looks like track laying will be done with the creation of a route, which should make it a lot easier, and hopefully we will see a heap of new Australian routes.
As for the pc performance, they can't make to demanding as it wont sell.
