I don't build for Trainz, only MSTS.
Prototypical with photoreal detail for most significant buildings and a few hundred kms in length. Has a tiny amount of downloaded objects and an even tinier number of default ones. I do what I like each day. That could be 8 hours or it could be 3.

Alot of those screenshots bare a striking resemblance to Flightsim - I am looking forward to this release, I recently went through a bucket load of computer upgrades for Flightsim2004 and now it's running beautifully.
One of the things that I love about these types of games are being able to addon stuff at your own discression, MSTS1 isn't very happy with addons I've found though so I tend to steer away from it.
I love Flightsim because of the sheer variety of addons from water enhancement, scenery, aircraft, sound packs, AI packs (not that I use those yet) to weather.
With my new setup I've finally gotten flightsim running flawlessly, I won't touch FSX for 2 reasons - It'll demand a higher performance than FS9 at the same or similar settings and secondly There aren't nearly as many addons yet available.
If I can get my hands on a demo, I'd easily do a review.
(Slightly jumping off topic, again)
My computers stats are
P4 3.2GHz HyperThreading
1.5GB DDR400 RAM
256MB ATi X800 AGP 400MHz
250GB Seagate Baracuda SATA
The results?
P.S - Can anyone see any merit in Multiplayer? Unless you'd get a big-smeg server happening with someone controlling the signals

that would be so cool! dropping off trains, other people shunting them, but it would take a hell of alot of modding work... anless they add it to the game originaly...

what game are you refering to? i got a FSX demo, im not going to buy it tho cause its not worth it cause ill need to spend another $1000 on the computer to get it up to scratch! ill stick to fs9 for now.

Top, I think not A decent 8800 costs anywhere between $500 - $1200 which takes up almost half to all of what you claim to have spent. All other parts would have to be below anything decent to get you under the $1200 mark.
In FSX though, parts of the world need to be loaded up and the millions of millions of trees, buildings, cars, textures, animals and other planes all add to the stress load. At any one time there can be thousands and thousands of these different objects being rendered a computer, as a plane flies low across a city. In a Train Simulator, though, there is only a tiny part (compared to FSX) of the world being loaded at once, with a lot more objects being able to be hidden from view as most trains do not have a view radius around them like a flying plane does.
FSX currently has a multiplayer mode but I haven't sussed it out too much myself. I have heard of what it can do it (such as one person being in control of the tower while others fly their own personal planes, requesting permission to land, take off and taxi.
A Train Sim would be able to run better than a Flight Sim on most computers, provided the detail of models is the same across both. But this is where a Train Sim can improve the look of the surrounding environment. As there are less models being rendered at any one time because of the flatter view distances, locos, wagons, buildings, trees even tracks can be a lot more highly detailed and still put the same stress on a computer like FSX would.
Multiplayer...well, would go to the smeg real quick with one twat on it.
Brendan03, I'll put up a pic from FSX when i get my new system next week (E6600 Duo Core 2.4ghz (overclocked), 8800GTS 640MB (Overclocked), 4GB DDR 800MHz RAM )

I wouldn't be surprised if the developers aren't even sure yet. Going by the current info the game only appears to be its first year into what could be a 2 or 3 year development period.

This will be CRAP and smeg if they dont include an option to change trains in-game without exiting to the menu- auran got it right first time...! At the end of the day trainz has always smegged allover MSTS, and im a longterm msts user, well was anyways.
I would LOVE To see an option to leave the cab where u become first-person, like in many games where u can freely walk around and roam the environment, climb into different trains etc... walk through passenger cars etc. would be better to de-couple cars that way too!!

The pictures look great.
I still don't understand all the fuss about it being for DX10 only. I cant see any point, except for the default routes. If KRS is anything to go by, once the modders get ther hands on it, they'll have it looking just like MSTS1 in no time at all, with all its low quality scenery, amateur world modeling and non-authentic physics.
Still, MSTSX should be a nice showcase for demonstrating and selling Windows Vista.
