I can see what you mean, loading takes a painful amount of time on bad nights lately.

Did you try setting the time machine to the start of the day?

Just click on the clock at the top of the forum board, set the time, hit enter and I think that brings back all new posts since that time.

Believe it or not, this server has dramatically increased speed and availability compared to Fang.

The mail server works on this server, unlike Fang.

The hard disks aren't 90% likely to die on this server, unlike Fang.

All I'm asking is that you guys give me some more time to figure out why it's dying occasionally. That's all Smile

It could be a server load problem again. This morning at 530am I had no problems but this afternoon it again died when I tried logging in. More people here at 330pm than 530am.

Just a thought. I add my thanks to MGH™ and all for their efforts to keep Railpage Australia™ up and running.

It ain't a problem with the data center itself is it?

I get outages at 2am, so it can't be peak hour related.

For the past week or so I have been getting a lot of outages and 'server failed to load'
I then exit and try again, and it works but is extremely slow.
Takes at least 5 minutes for me to load pages on the site, people say tha it is due to a massive peak of people online?
When I check the online status, they seem to have little people online.
I wasn't round here when FANG was here but what was it like?

I have found I get a bit better performance using Firefox rather than IE. The site is probably written for w3c standards rather than optimised for IE. the only problem is opening linked sites which are setup for IE.

Get Firefox here http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

EDIT 9/10
Update! Have tested other browsers. have found Flock which appears to be a variation of Firefox designed to facilitate working with Flickr and blog sites etc. It works very well with Railpage Australia™ and with linked photo sites.

It can be downloaded here http://www.flock.com/

I for one do not care if the web page drops if it's down it's down thats all there is to it, if it was like Microsoft or a major webpage and they where going to lose money on it then I would be getting in a bad mood.

But the staff who run this page do not get payed so if you think you can do better please do so.

Why are we all blaming the new FANG every time.

Perhaps it is the 'internet connection' of which is the problem.

Do not forget, the internet connection providers, such as Telstra etc, they slow down your speed as soon as you hit a certain KB per lenght of time.

Perhaps that is part of the problem with the way that Railpage Australia™ seems to slow down now and then.

Well Jim, it's sort of like this. Once upon a time there was a 1 and a 0. They were called bits.

By a long and tireless process of development by the worlds top scientists over 50 years or more, these were used as the basis of really clever computers. Until you understand that process, I suggest you leave the apportioning of blame for RP slowness to the experts.
